Now that we're "on the verge" of the 10th studio Hip album and IVL is well implanted in our heads, How do you rate IVL compared to the other albums? I'm just curious because I find that people's favorites tend to change over time.

I am so obsessed with the Hip that after I know each album very well I rate them using this technique: I rate each song out of 10, giving only my very very favorites 10's otherwise most of the songs would be 10's! Then I add up the numbers and devide it by the number of songs to get the score. This is what I came up with:

9.41 - Road Apples
9.37 - Up To Here
9.17 - Fully Completely
7.35 - Day for Night
7.33 - Phantom Power
7.21 - Music at Work
6.25 - The Tragically Hip
6.00 - Trouble at The Henhouse
6.00 - In Violet Light

IVL is at the bottom along with TATH for me, but don't get me wrong, they are still awesome!

I'm not asking for anyone to be as obsessive as me ConfusedhockSadalthough I'd be curious) but how would you rate IVL compared to the other albums?
Wow, thats obsessive all right, with graphics and calculations!  IVL for me is much better than M@W. The only songs I really dig on M@W are Stay, The Completeist, Lake Fever, M@W and The Bastards; while the only weak songs on IVL for me are Are you Ready and The Dire Wolf.
I took a stab at your process, and I heres what I came up with:

8.75 - Fully Completely
8.58 - Day For Night
8.54 - Road Apples
8.24 - Phantom Power
8.27 - Up To Here
7.63 - Trouble At The Henhouse
7.50 - Music @ Work
7.25 - In Violet Light
7.19 - The Tragically Hip

Thats kind of how I always perceived the positioning in my head. I think IVL is too short, and it loses validity for that reason. I find it interesting how you have the EP ranked higher than IVL and TATH, but to each their own. I really hope their new album is a lot longer than IVL and Battle of the Nudes... combined they were only 15 minutes longer than DFN.
I was bored, and there is no better way to kill time than obsess over the hip... so i did it too (and it was fun)

8.83 -- Fully Completely
8.75 -- Day For Night
8.42 -- Phantom Power
8.03 -- Road Apples
7.72 -- Up To Here
7.50 -- Trouble at the Henhouse
7.36 -- Music @ Work
7.00 -- EP

I was a DfN convert, so that explains the lower Up to Here and Road Apples. Please don't hurt me Smile
I tried but failed to give a number rating to the hip albums. Instead I just go from 1-9 of my favourite albums. Each album holds a different merit for me making a points list impossible. EX. Phantom Power has that muskoka kinda cottage feeling I really dig and fully completely is just good to rock out to.

1.)Phantom Power
2.)Road Apples
3.)Fully Completely
4.)Up to Here
5.)The Tragically Hip
6.)Music@Work
7.)IVL
8.)Trouble at the Henhouse
9.)Day For Night
1. Fully Completely
2. Day for Night
3. Road Apples
4. Up to Here
5. Phanton Power
6. Trouble at the Henhouse
7. Music at Work
8. TTH
9. IVL
Here's what I got...

9.41 Phantom power
9.32 Fully Completely
9.09 Road Apples
8.65 Day For Night
8.19 Up To Here
7.96 TATH
7.92 M@W
6.68 IVL
5.54 The EP

Phantom Power is the best modern rock album ever.

Two years later, I just plain don't like IVL. A few great songs, a whole lot of middle-of-the-road stuff. I expect more from the new album!
somehow I forgot to PUT IVL in my lsit. and it's SAD because I'm like one of the FEW so far who love it!

I gave it an 8.09, putting it just above Road Apples for me, at #4.

wow. i guess I really like it. i never would have thought I would have rated it that high. but the numbers don't lie! Tongue
I really like IVL as well....
To be honest beside a few brightly shining gems I felt Day for Night to be the most unimpressive CD yet. IVL to me is a laid back sort of groove cd that doesn't hold the same bang as say Up to Here but yet manages to keep me listening to every song.
dude! Day for Night like makes me want to have their babies! Day for Night Rob Baker is my HERO. The guitar is AMAZING! i find that album more than any other can really take me into the music where I experience as opposed to just hear it.
That stings... DFN makes me cry sometimes... after I looked over my album evaluation, it came to me that it doesn't define the most solid albums... them being DFN and PP in my mind...
Don't get me wrong... if someone were to say what do you like better Day for Night or say Barenaked ladies Gordon I would go for the hip everytime. It's just that when it comes to pitting hip cd's to hip cd's there are 2 kinds of hip tunes.... Friggin awesome ones :jump or I can't beleive I just blacked out from musical rapture Confusedhock: tunes. And I felt that PP just takes me to so many other levels of musical wandering as opposed to Day for Night.
I find PP and DFN the most similar albums in the Hip's ever evolving career... but both are just damn delicious... the most mature of all, I would say... but then again they're all damn delicious...
If I had a $1 for everytime Hip albums were compared I'd be a very rich man Confusedcratch: . They are all great albums in their own sense so I don't think I'll do any comparisons, but just listen and enjoy them.
