Pretend, Last Night I Dreamed and In View are the casualties in Round 1; off to Round 2!
Eliminated Round 1
Pretend
Last Night I Dreamed You Didn't Love Me
In View
Vote for the song you believe to be the weakest on World Container and after 48 hours, we will remove the two songs that have the most votes. As before, a song must have at least 10% of the vote in order to be removed otherwise it will carry forward into the following round.
The poll will end Friday at 9:11am Eastern.
Happy voting!
Shane
I feel peculiarly interlaced, but have to vote for Luv Sic. I assume it, and Fly will go in this round (which is too bad, because I love Fly). World Container has an awful hatestorm going against it, so maybe it goes here or next round. Then Rink and Ocean should go together in the good not great category, leaving us with Kids, Drop Off, and Family Band, and all will be right with the universe.
So, let's none of you maniacs vote for Kids this round, capisci?

Voting for Luv (sic) this round is unvirtuous and will be remembered and felt. Fly is where I directed my vote. "Pair of glowing thighs" is great, "I might turn a broom into a tree" not so great. The title alone puts the Hip in the not-so-illustrious company of fellow "Fly" singers Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Nicki Minaj, and Sugar Ray.
I'm going to call a final four of Rink, Ocean, Family Band, and Drop-Off (although this last one has its work cut out to get there given the early votes it's been racking up).
Luv(Sic) is OK. I've never been convinced that that archetypical 'menacing Hip' musical treatment really serves those rather airy lyrics, though. In other words, the lyrics are anything but scary, while the music tries to be, and so the song isn't ultimately convincing. Also, the title pun is asinine: meaningless wordplay. But lest I now be accused of 'hating the Hip,' let me reiterate that this song is one of the few that I bother to listen to from this CD. It's not top-drawer by any stretch, but I'd certainly keep it around for a little while.
I voted for the execrable title track again, of course. Hopefully it and 'Fly' end up on the killing floor where they belong. :rambo:
I voted Fly as I find the "flyyy-ay-ay-ay-ay-ayyyyyy" distracting. Pleasantly surprised to see Family Band doing this well, as it's probably in my top two on this album. I'm shocked In View is gone so early, and I'm not faking incredulous. That has to be the worst polling performance of any Hip single, let alone a #1 chart topping single.
I just hope WC can manage not to vanish one more round. When Hipbase quits on you, it must be dinner.
Poor Fly.
Have always loved it.
Fly and Luv(sic) over World Container? I do not understand this.
Fly I can take or leave. But I really luv Luv(sic) (other than the groan-inducing pun in the title). The idea of love as the chief virtue is worth exploring in song and I love the soaring guitars in the chorus. It was one of the standout tracks for me when the album came out.
Come on guys, the Luv(sic) title is nothing to hate...do people really think Gord intended this as some brilliant Cohenesque metaphor? To me it's a clever use of cacography...very consistent with Gord's sly sense of humour. I can actually see him smirking as he wrote it. "Luv" enhances the sentiment of an innocent, almost teenagery love. We're best when we're tender.
Either that or he was a bigger fan of Japanese hip hop than I would have guessed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGfguhnvECc
