Happily voting for Fireworks. I was thinking that I'd get multiple opportunities to do so, but it appears there is a strong contingent of those who don't care for it. It's a bathroom break tune for me.
It's clear early on that this poll is going to culminate in a "Hits" vs. "Deep Cuts" showdown, Poets and Bobcaygeon vs. Escape and Emperor.

I feel the sting of the votes for this too. I love the dark tone of Membership. The way Gord sings this one sounds to me like his live voice in recent years -- a deeper register with the hint of a growl. The way he punches "

banks" sounds dark and ominous. :twisted: But...what are the alternatives to vote for? I picked "The Rules" ...maybe because of its tone - light, airy, little wistful perhaps? Nothing wrong with that...but compared to other songs it sounds maybe less important...if that makes sense.
I thought about voting for Save The Planet too...but that Ron Burgundy-esque flute solo at the end is just too fun to ignore. Maybe it'll get my 2nd round vote.

Ya know what? I screwed up my vote! Somehow I completely forgot about the album's only complete piece of sh*t, Save the Planet, and voted against the merely adequate Chagrin Falls instead. D'OH!

Bleech - it has zero going for it as a composition, IMHO. Clumsy melody, lousy, unmemorable chorus, 'meh' lyrics by GD's standards. Useless. But good news, it was a by-default beneficiary of my incompetent poll-responding :mrgreen:

Fireworks deserves odium because it is a song that I don't want to hear at a concert. But it is a song that there is a chance will be heard at a concert because it is not as weak as The Rules. So The Rules gets the first vote.
The buzzards will easily pick off The Rules, Chagrin Falls, Save the Planet, and Odium-Deserving Fireworks. Then they'll crack the carcass of Membership, Thompson Girl, and Vapour Trails. Something On will go after we realize it hung on too long. Or Vapour Trails and Something On will swap fates. Then we'll duke it out for the big boppers (Poets and BobC) against Escape and Emperor Penguin. In every other timeline BobC beats Poets in an exhausting Game 7, people reminiscing about their cottage and beers and bongs and wearing some shirt and laying down in the dewy grasses of youth, but in this -- the HIpbase timeline, the darkest timeline (oh and you're the Darkest One) -- Penguin and Escape go to the wire and the universe implodes and the Cubs win the World Series over the Indians after an extra inning rain delay and we all wake up like wreckage on the shores of Baby Beach wondering what happened.
Or did I just dream that?

Me too, I love that song! I don't understand why it got dropped from their setlists so quickly. I remember having front row for that tour and they opened with that song, it was great! I wish I could have heard it more than once live (same with Emperor Penguin, although I at least heard it once).
