The instrumentation is just as important as the lyrics.

Would love to see the surviving four tour as an instrumental unit and let the fans belt out the lyrics.

Obviously that wouldn't happen, but I do agree with you that the band's music is as important as Gord's lyrics. It would be interesting if they formed a new band, with one of them taking over singing duties, or perhaps finding a new singer. Not saying they should go on as The Hip, but if they did something new, together, I would definitely be interested.
Four piece is a thousand times more likely than new singer. No one replaces Gord, this isn’t Journey.

I approve this message - only if that's what they all want to do.
At least for one tour, but give it a year or so.
I'm certain Johnny, Rob, Paul & Gord don't want to be a nostalgia band and they all have ideas they want to explore.
No no no no to all of this.

I don't think there is any going back to what seems like the final chapter of the hip (live wise at least).

I would be happy if they just continued with their other projects and kept making music that way.
Oh

Fuck

Well said.
Yeah? Go back and listen to tracks like the Daredevil reprise and tell me it wouldn't be epic to hear them jam out on some of our favourite tracks.

Sorry, but for all that say that Gord WAS the Tragically Hip, I say bullsh!t. To me the music is just as important as the lyrics and in some cases more so...

Not talking arena style tour, just small venues. Intimate and powerful.

We're all entitled to our opinions - this is mine. Not suggesting they recruit Jason Statham or that guy Dean from Practically Hip, I'm saying, in the words of the great Shannon, let the music play...

Clearly the four have significant chemistry as musicians and I for one would relish the opportunity to see them play together again in this capacity. Hell,if the Grateful Dead could pull it off, no reason why we couldn't...
Don't think you'd ever see this happen.

That being said, I would still bet on them doing a one off, huge benefit concert in the upcoming months (similar to the Freddie Mercury Tribute) where the band will perform with guest artist with all benefits going to cancer. I think odds are pretty good this will happen.

Could see a one-off benefit concert, but I wouldn't want (nor do I think they would) them to tour as a 4-man band playing Hip songs.

I will admit, that with their friendship and long-standing comfort in playing with each other, I have this fantasy that the four will occasionally play small clubs unannounced and under a different band name. In these concerts, they'd play new stuff with lyrics written by Sinclair and/or Langlois, but no Hip songs, with Paul taking lead vocals.

^^THIS EXACTLY

I see them playing/recording together just as you said, but never as a "nostalgia" act or clinging to The Hip moniker. Maybe during a live show they would potentially throw in an old Hip song, but that's as close as you might get, never would they go on the road with that as their actual act.

Nobody said that Downie WAS the Tragically Hip (not here in this thread at least). We just said we don't see it happening. They have other projects and bands that they can now pursue. Not many bands can end the way they did, knowing it was coming and plan the perfect final tour. Why go back and distort those perfect memories? It's something beautiful that should be left alone.

I am not saying that won't or shouldn't do music together at some point, but just don't see them touring Hip music. Look at Rage...new singer and all of a sudden it's turned something beautiful, into....welll..... :nooooo
I highly doubt the guys would ever do this. And if they did, I wouldn't be interested.
I'll always go see the other 4 play, no matter what it's in.

I thought about this too. Proceeds to Sunnybrook/Downie Wenjack. Different singer for each song
