Here we go with Day for Night; 14 tracks of awesomeness to pare down to determine the victor!
As before, vote for the song you believe to be the weakest on Day for Night and after 48 hours, we will remove the three songs that have the most votes. As before, a song must have at least 10% of the vote in order to be removed otherwise it will carry forward into the following round.
The poll will end Friday at 9:01am Eastern.
Happy voting!
Shane
i'll be shocked if the final round isn't Grace, Too vs Nautical Disaster.

Agree. And that will be an epic heavyweight tilt. I can't imagine voting against either of those two. Scared will likely round out the top three.
In my humble opinion, there are two songs on this incredible album that aren't as good as the rest: Emergency and Impossibilium. In Round 1, my fingers start to wiggle and Emergency emerges as my weakest link.

yup. i voted Impossibilium. thought about IOD for a bit. if that survives this round, it will be my round 2 vote.
I can't do Impossibilium yet...the build up in the intro is too great. Not to mention "That's such a you thing to say", which is a great lyric (and such a Gord thing to write).
I went with Greasy Jungle just because I don't like how Gord holds the Greeeeeasy note...it doesn't do his voice justice. It does set up the verses nicely, but it throws off an otherwise perfect song for me. Yes I am going to have to get this picky to weed out these amazing songs.
Nautical Disaster will win.
"There's this fuckin' band you gotta see" Surprised it's got 5 of 16 votes already. Wasn't even on my radar of bottom 3. I guess why it makes this fun

Heresy. This topic is not good for my health.

Embarrassed to admit that it took a few listens until the line "an inch an hour, two feet a day" clicked with me. 24 hours, that's 24", hey that's 2ft!?!? LOL
I like "Impossibilium." Always thought it would work as a perverse choice for a wedding song. But "Emergency" - while it has a good chorus and is tonally consistent with the album - should have been left on the cutting room floor. "We're an endless emergency without end" is an example of lyrical ineptitude very atypical of wordsmith Gord, too. So it gets my vote.
So Hard Done By gets my vote...I prefer the sped up version from the FC sessions. I know Impossibilium will probably get kicked off but that's one of my favourite songs on the album. Not sure how I'm going to vote for Grace, Too over Nautical Disaster, and vice versa, but my initial thought would be Nautical, as I would argue it's the greatest lyrical work Gord has ever done, and I love Rob's solo in it as well - just a perfect combination of the best of the Hip's music and lyric writing.

I've never liked that lyric either. It's a lyrical redundancy that reminds me of Van Halen's "Only Time Will Tell If We Stand the Test of Time" from "Why Can't This Be Love". If that lyric was in Nautical Disaster, I would give it a total pass. However, in an otherwise not very strong song, it gets no pass from me. I voted for Emergency this round.

This song contains some great lines but also contains the lyrics "we lift the rocket out of the pocket nothing can stop it". To me this seems like one of the very few instances of Gord turning to a rhyme dictionary to complete a lyric. It's a series of rhymes that is below his stature as a writer.
Ended up voting Emergency. I like that song, but it's not quite up to par with songs like Grace or Nautical, so off the island it goes.
It's interesting that the back end (11-14) of this album is taking such a beating in this round. The Hip finish strongly on most albums, but apparently that isn't the pervasive feeling here.
Interesting to see results and other peoples opinions of songs.
IMO, I'm surprised/saddened to see votes against Titanic Terrarium, I always loved that song. To me it completely wraps up the whole "vibe" of Day For Night into one song.
I thought Fire In The Hole might have a few more votes as well. Not my least favourite, but it never really connected with me or felt like it "fit" with the rest of the album.
