I love this line and the song "Love over Money".

There are many so threads that create the fabric of this song. Gord seems to unconvincingly tell himself that gigs were a necessity of the "work" and life events like weddings, funerals, and births were the expected casualty. I sense a tinge of regret in this line. He further deconstructs the rock star mythos and that of the band by mentioning the downs, and not just that "we fell", but also that "we fell out", far enough so that "love was broken". Using the tried and true inspirational line, he follows up the knock downs by saying "we got back up" again and "love was repaired".

He also examines the brotherhood of the band while simultaneously laying out the band's early credo "pluggin' in and playin', tryin' for the ears of the earth". He then chronicles their rise from playing "to no one and to no one plus one", all the way to to "deafening the husband of the Queen of England" with "Poets" at the Queen's Jubilee in 2006. What a great way to describe one of the band's pinnacles. In 1986 the guys would have stared in disbelief if they were told that they would one day find the Queen of England and Prince Phillip in the front of their stage.

Overall a great song, written in the typical Downie fashion of juxtaposing the light and the dark, this time in examining the history of the band.

Such a fantastic song. Juxtaposing hardship with triumph and love serving as the backbone through it all. Great little intimate snapshot of Gord's view of The Hip. One of my favourite moments on the record is Gord's delivery of "Love-- that's how we get good! WHEW!"

Finally followed up. Got a response today stating that the double LP only arrived at the warehouse on Friday. Order should be packed and shipped by mid-week or next week at the latest.

i didn't pay attention to that. :oops: But i would have at least liked to have the CD by now (even if i'm still not sure if i'm ready to listen).

Agree with the love for love over money. Would have wondered if the deaf lyric was about Paul had I never read the parent interview from the Aug 20 special edition Kingston Whig Standard

The upside to being an idiot and not realizing the other 2 albums were on LP, had to go back and make a second order.
