It was recently announced that Pearl Jam will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next April. The idea of a hall of fame itself is very divisive and there are always lots of strong opinions on who belongs there and who doesn't, or if the concept has any merit at all. What really isn't debatable is that if it exists, Pearl Jam deserves to be included.
Bands typically get to play three songs at the induction ceremony (for example, last year Green Day played "American Idiot", "When I Come Around", and "Basket Case") so I've been thinking about what Pearl Jam might play. For the Pearl Jam fans out there I'd like to hear what three songs you THINK they will play and what three you would LIKE to see them play. These will probably be completely different lists.
Think they will play:
1. Alive
2. Rearviewmirror
3. Betterman
Like them to play:
1. Indifference
2. Corduroy
3. State of Love and Trust
This is tough to do. You could interchange 100+songs on those lists and I'd still be happy.
Bands usually play their most well known hits at this ceremony, so I'd imagine they'll probably go:
Alive
Better Man
Jeremy
You could sub in Even Flow as well, but they tend to jam that sucker out to 8-10 minutes sometimes. If they do play it, it'll be the shortened "radio" version.
I was happy to hear they were inducted. They've been one of the hardest-working bands of the last 25 years and they certainly deserve it. Any guesses on who might induct them at the ceremony? Vedder inducted R.E.M. a few years ago, and he did an excellent job. I wouldn't mind seeing Michael Stipe return the favor.

Bands do tend to play the hits but I think PJ is well aware of the fact that they wouldn't be where they are were it not for the support of their fervent fans. They've never shied away from rewarding their fanbase with diverse sets and I don't see the induction being any different.

That would definitely make sense. Either him or maybe Cornell. Bono is a possibility as well, as U2 and PJ have become pretty good buddies over the years and have collaborated a few times.

I like your choices. It would be great to see them play a couple of well known hits and then throw in something from left field like Present Tense (a top three track on No Code, IMO).
There is also the end of the night all-star jam session to consider. An obvious (maybe too obvious) choice would be to play Rockin' in the Free World. There have been some great Rock and Roll Hall of Fame closing numbers over the years but my favourite of all-time has to be While My Guitar Gently Weeps in 2004. That performance highlights Prince's musical talent and showmanship as well as anything I've ever seen or heard. Prince's solo on this song is worth the time for anyone who hasn't seen it. And the "disappearance" of his guitar after tossing it at the end is a great way to finish:

I think the likelihood of all three songs coming from the 90's is fairly high. I'd be surprised if they played anything from after 2000/Binaural and this is not a comment on the quality of material over the past 15 years. It's more of a reflection that the ceremony is typically a time to recognize what got you to the big dance, and not a time to state a case for relevancy.

Anyone think Dave Abbruzzese (or Jack Irons) should be included with Krusen and Cameron? Or did he blow any chance of that by reacting to his exclusion like a whiny teenager?
