Strictly Hip: www.strictlyhip.com
i've seen strictlyhip about 3 years ago in a bar in downtown st catharines.... It's a dance bar to boot but I'll tell, they put on 1 hell of a sow. All the guys left their girls to get stage front as soon as they were announced. It was so good to hear hip after rap song after rap song after crap. Good band --- longer songs if i remember. in otherwords they throw in some longer solos and shit, goodtimes

I saw the Practically Hip over the holidays at the world famous Village Inn. I'm assuming they were the same kind of ass they were 10-12 years ago. Although the ABAC --> Gems was kinda cool, I chalked it up to the fact that their "Gord Sinclair" couldn't pull off the proper Gems intro.

My girlfriend (who truth be told isn't the biggest Hip fan) was impressed with how much the guy sounded like Gord. And at first, yes he does, but after a song you realize how terrible they all really are.

At least now I can say I've seen Small Town Bringdown live... sort of.

Cheers

Pat
i dont understand this. they are a great band and sound GREAT playing hip songs almost note for note. where is everyone else who has seen them? jamie? tina? kris?
Whats with all this Practically hip bashing in here. They are a great band to go see. I usually end up seeing them once a week at least. I dont know, maybe people dont view them with an open mind. They are 5 very talented musician that have come together. Im going to go see them twice this weekend,
i watched their videos at their website and they do a good job for a cover band. With the exception of Butchering little bones and trickle down.!
I first met the lead singer Dean of The Practically Hip back in November of 2002. He contacted me via email to tell me he had recorded 6 Europe shows on vhs and would like to trade. I was totally blown away by his gesture. If it wasn't for Dean and his friend who traveled to Europe, we most likely wouldn't have the Paradiso, Oosterpoort, Belgium, Tivoli and Popcentrum shows on cdr, vhs or dvd for that matter. He gave them to Peter Padjen who made copies on DVD and CDR for a whole whack of people.

Dean told me to come check them out that night up in North York Ontario and I was totally blown away. The following week they were playing at Whiskey Joes in Hamilton where I first met Chris (chancellor) and Adam (Beanmedic).

Not only are they great musicians, but they are great people as well. They are all hip fans and just love to rock out every weekend for fun and entertain the crowd. They do it as a means of fun. Who cares if they aren't perfect doing every darn song there is. They aren't about perfection, they are about entertaining people and just having fun. Dean does a good impersenation of Gord and does quite a few rants.

I'd like to see all the complainers out there do as good a job as they do impersonating thehip. I know I can't and if I can't see the hip every darn weekend like I wish, I know I can always rely on The Practically Hip somewhere in southern ontario for entertainment.
As president of my schools student council, i often get letters and advertizements in the mail for the council to buy certain entertainment for the school...One letter a got was from a magician...the second i read the name of the company i was sold.

the magically hip.

the audio and video on their site is misleading. they sound better than that
Yeah, I just checked out their site. I was impressed by the AV links. I'm sure they put on a fun show.
for anyone in Ottawa or Kanata or around there, Little Bones is playing in Kanata this Thursday (the 26th). It's at O'Conner's Irish Pub (650 Earl Grey Drive).

You know you want to go!
I got to see the Practically Hip at Whiskey Joes when I was home on leave a couple of years ago and to tell the truth I had a kick ass time. They sound great and it is hard to get that kind of atmosphere sitting in my basement with the hip cranked. There is just something about being able to go out to the bar and hear some real good hip tunes that aren't on a jukebox I guess. Good on you Practically Hip.

By some strange twist of fate I saw the Practically Hip before I saw the real Hip (I didn't get into the Hip until after M@W, but before IVL and the ensuing tour). I've seen them one other time since and I gotta say they are great. Really sweet cover of So Hard Done By.

I think anybody who is willing to get up in front of hundreds of people and try and impersonate Gord and his moves deserves some respect.
