Went to my first show of the tour last night. I couldn't believe how frequently the smaller kit was used. It seemed like he played 75% of the show on the mini kit. I wonder why.
anyone know why there's a second drum set at all?
I don't know much about drums (I'm an axe kinda guy), but I understand that drums can be tuned differently?
Or are they miked/mixed differently for quieter songs?
Not really sure but it may have something to do with them starting the first few songs of each show in very close proximity to each other.
Just like different guitars, different drum kits sound, different.
It's a cocktail kit: smaller, different drums (one hand drum/one bongo, for instance), although it's well-mic'd and pretty loud all things considered. He's using it a lot more than you'd expect...and as a random, related aside, I'm very surprised "Grace, Too" begins with a sample.
