Some one should do the Tree thing again........
when i lived in potsdam, ny i bought a couple hip boots (cd's) from a music store. i paid around $10 each for them, but it seemed worth it at the time. you've got to understand that to a "newbie" (somewhat inaccurate since i followed the hip since the first album), this whole prospect of trading is discouraging.

first of all, i have nothing to trade, and it was a long, long time before i happened to stumble across the definition of "B&P". from someone on the outside looking in, the trading community seems insular: the jargon, the fact that everyone seems to have 300 shows, the possibility of getting stiffed. i realize jargon is just part of communicating on the net, but you wouln't believe how long i searched one night trying to find out what "B&P" meant. i just gave up after that and concentrated on kazaa (which rarely presents anything new, i don't know why traders avoid it) and hundredthmeridian (god bless 'em). i tried the "furthur" site but found out only after downloading and installing their software that they only have gigantic 80 meg or more filesets, not individual songs. nowhere in their introduction do they mention this, or why it's that way. since i'm on dial-up, i couldn't participate, and i was left rather angry at this complete waste of my time which could have been avoided with a simple introductory message on their part (sorry, i had to get that off my chest)
i admit that part of my reservations about b&p is just plain impatience. many of us love that instant gratification of having something available to buy. i wish the hip put out commercial live cd's like phish and the dead; i would gladly pay. (when live between us came out, i was living in colorado and had to buy it as an "import" since it wasn't released in the states right away. the damage: $23 US. am i a fan or just crazy?)
another thing is i kind of feel like i would just be "bumming" off people since i have nothing to trade, and there's really nothing in it for people who have so much. i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of "newbies" feel that way, even though everyone on this site seems genuine (not blaming anyone...) johno'
I hear ya there John0,When i first seen Roxy & Elsewhere in a little record shop called Vinyl exchange, they had it priced at $50,I bought it of course, this was back in like 97 i think when i wasn't too aware of Tree's or B&p's,but when I listened to that cd,I didn't give a shit about no $50 or the politics surrounding selling bootz. I guess its that instant gratification thing you mentioned. That's why I guess I mentioned the tree thing again, becuase there's alot of us out there still who want the gigz but are relegated too going 2 Ebay for the sole fact that they do not know about Hipbase. There's some pretty decen folk on this site that'll give you a boost if you ask. hey man if you need help with some gigz send me a note,I don't have as many as some folkz but a nice little ammont and counting.......summit
it took me a long time (years) to find good people to trade with. it seems like there are only a dozen or so people across north america that are willing to do blanks and postage deals for hip music. when you do find them it is an amazing experience. They are huge fans just like yourself and just want to spread the music around. it takes work but they are out there. I also have a small collection and am willing to do b&ps when i can

CHEERS to that, dude. I spent almost a year trying to find someone back in 98 when I first started colelcting. Nobody would B&P me. I B&P at least one person a month, and since last fall i have probably done at least 2 a month. If the other people are willing to cover postage with a couple extra discs, why not?? I mean, I am waiting for CDs to arrive for TWO B&Ps right now!

I just remember how nobody would do it for me, so I don't make that mistake. I know some people honestly don't have the time, but since I have never taped a show and probably never will ($$$), this is my way of giving back to the community.

Oh and I'm not just saying this to make myself sound great. I want to encourage others to B&P because everyone I deal with is so happy to have finally found someone who will.
i just wanted to say that, sometimes people buy the boots because they're not aware of how they can get them (ie, trading or b &p), but i will say that years ago i set up a couple of trades (not from the hipbase) and i got ripped off, i send out the cds but didn't get anything in return, man was i bummed. i lost all confidence in trading. well i don't have a burner anymore so i've asked a couple of people (from hipbase) to do b&p's for me and they were more than helpful. no problems, everything went smooth and of course it took some time to get the boots, but you can't complain when someone's going out of their way to help you. Once I get a new computer, I hope I can give back to the community in what it gave to me.

Thanks to all the hipbasers

The good thing about Kazaa(Kazaalite in my case) is the availability of unreleased songs that seem to be extremely hard to find. It does take alot of patience, since there are probably around 20 people or so on Kazaa who have the songs uploaded. I went through the same newbie experience when I got into Rush as a teenager; bought two shows that werent really good for about 60 bucks. At the time I was hyped cause I knew nothing about the trader community and forums such as this. Now i realize i was ripped off. Now I'm hyped cause I'm getting a burner and a hard drive upgrade :jump ,so if any newbie is interested in getting your hands on the shows I have, please feel free to email me at cygnusanalogman@yahoo.com and we'll set up a B&P :thumb:
Looks like someone is selling boots again. This time it is the I & I from back in 2000. It is on VHS. Looks like he taped it off tv and added a cover. :rambo: Let's put a stop to selling boots!! I know people would buy them but that doesn't make it right. People like myself with 240 plus shows could make a killing but you know I never had to buy any of my boots and now have lots. Peeps you just need to keep looking. There are good trades out there.
