The Rangers suck because they go for players with bigger salaries and egos than hearts , how long is it gonna take for Slats to figure that out . Team chemistry goes alot further than a team full of superstars , you'd think after years of sucking with these mega salaries on the team he'd figure that out , Slats was a hockey god before he moved to New York , I don't think he's stupid , maybe just desperate . In Edmonton it worked for him , full of stars , but he had these guys since they were kids , the game was less about the " bling bling " back then and more about winning the cup . The Rangers haven't been able to convince these players to play as a team , and that means sacrificing . Not many coaches can reign in a bunch of superstars , the only one that really comes to mind is Scotty Bowman .

NY is where stars go to die. That team is a disgrace. can anyone name the last player that team took from the beginning of their career and developed. My guess is that its Brian Leetch.

This may be the most impressive collection of underachievers ever assembled:
Leetch
Poti
DeVries
Kasparaitis
Malakhov
Messier
Lindros
Jagr
Kovalev
Holik
Nedved
Simon
Barnaby
That said, if this team ever clicks, it seems to me all that's missing to make them very scary down the stretch is a top-flight goaltender, and there are plenty out there to choose from (eg. Kolzig, Joseph, Burke)...
Once Jagr and Kovalev get reaquainted (you may recall they combined for 216 points in 00-01), the Rangers should push into the playoffs, and if they get that goaltender, they could make one of the top seeds very nervous in round one...
The way I figure it when thinking about the way this team has been assembled, if you throw enough crap at a wall, eventually, some of it will stick...
