I heard a rumor today the band is talking about refunding the tickets for Kingston, and doing a free outdoor show instead. Don't know how true it is though.
Has anyone heard this from a legitimate source? There's been heresay on the Hip FB page.
That being said, I don't think it will happen.
I think it will happen. The band is pissed and they have enough time to do it.
There's nowhere big enough. Across the Causeway held 15k. They'd draw way more than that.

how do you know the band is pissed?
Oh man, what if they held it in that random farmers field in Gananoque where Snoop Dogg played to a crowd of 4,000?
Is there a source that the show may turn free in kingston?
I truly believe this should be the answer. Not even free. We will all pay. Just not reseller prices. Reasonable prices.
But as much as I want this to happen, it 99% surely won't happen.

I think a "final" GA show would be a great idea, albeit extremely unrealistic. As much as we like to complain about GA shows, they surprisingly do a lot to help combat scalping. Phish always does GA when they play the Gorge Amphitheatre (and a lot of other big venues), which essentially puts ALL tickets on a level-playing field, so you can't upsell "better" tickets. Even if the show sells out, the tickets remain reasonably cheap because all tickets are equivalent, no matter when it was purchased or if it was bought as a single, double, etc. Anyways, just another small minor nitpick as we come to terms with the lack of Hip in our lives.
As someone who has kingston tickets, i like this idea on paper, but i just cant see it happening. if it did, i'd do my best to be there still. I just dont know if its logistically possible. For a FREE concert you have to remember that it would actually draw in people who arent even that invested in this band. You'd need to either have a venue on par with downsview park for sars stock in toronto, which was impossible to sell out. Otherwise you'd still need to somehow ticket the event, even if it was free. I think the sad reality here is that there is no fair way to handle this situation. My hope is that after this tour is done, we see gord stay healthy enough to do some one off dates here and there as fundraisers maybe. My other long shot hope is that all of this outrage might actually make it worth while for a politician to do something about the scalping situation. Regardless, this has been pretty sad to watch to be honest. The way we've seen people capitalize on this very sad situation is absolutely sickening.
Yeah, not sure how this could logistically happen. What's a free show going to draw, 70,000 is maybe underestimating it? If the weather's nice, even more. Bobcaygeon was a good example of a cluster fuck. As mentioned above, you likely still need to ticket the event even if it's free. What promoter will want to take on a free show? I can't even guess at the insurance costs?

I'm sure the band are not happy about all this, but there are still a lot of fans who did get tickets for the show.
Charge a hundred bucks a ticket.

There, its not free.

Maybe do exactly this but shortly after the tour ends . Or in September when the heat might not be such an issue for gord. It's kind of hard to know exactly what he will be up for though . I've heard it speculated that these shows are all inside to make it so dehydration from the heat isn't a concern for him . This reasoning is the only thing that makes sense as to why they didn't do large outdoor shows in the first place . Who knows. This band has never explicitly states that this was THE final group of shows , I think it was just sort of assumed . They could potentially have some surprised in store for us yet.
