The Tragically Hip are not my favorite.
Prince always has been. Really.
What an amazing musician.

Very sad news indeed. The dude was a true musical icon, and we don't really have many of those anymore. Purple Rain was one of the first real albums I ever owned as a kid. I remember one of the coolest things I ever watched was a performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from the R n' R Hall of Fame with Tom Petty and a few others. It starts off pretty mild, but then Prince comes out and absolutely wipes the floor with every other musician there.

His Saturday Night Live performance of 'Fury' is the best goddamn song I've ever seen on that show.

Damn right Sean.

Rock and roll used to be a descriptor of what happened to your soul when you heard it. And in his glorious excess, in the cultish adoration of the neon glory that was every 1980s kid's crystalline memory of the transcendental, Prince was one of the greatest rockstars in the world.

Turn it up loud.

I have to agree Sean. And thanks for that link direwolf, it's been awhile since I saw that.

Prince and Bowie in one breadth, tragically painful.
