To recognize Queen`s University`s 175th anniversary all honorary degrees at this spring`s convocations will go to alumni of the school

And the list includes members of The Tragically Hip.

All members of The Hip are from Kingston and the band – with members Gord Downie, Rob Baker, Paul Langlois, Gord Sinclair and Johnny Fay – formed in 1984 in Waldron Tower, a Queen`s residence.

The band is being honoured for more than just it`s musical accomplishments.

The members have long supported many local, national and international charities and causes.

The Tragically Hip members will receive their honorary degrees on May 19.
Breaking news: Paul will now be leaving the Hip to pursue his true passion, Maritime Law.
May 19th is upon us. Congrats to the guys.

You're a crook, Captain Hook.
Is Downie getting one too?

Only the other four are in attendance.

The honourary degree recipient at my Queen's convocation ceremony was Robbie Robertson, which was really frickin' cool. The gist of his speech was: "I've done all sorts of cool things with my life, but it's never felt complete because I didn't get the chance to attend university. Never take this for granted." It was a great message to hear, and I would absolutely trade my degrees to have played a single song with Bob Dylan :p
Gord Sinclair's speech:

wow. Johnny is looking OLD! he went completely grey
I know! I was shocked to see Mr. Fay as well. Good for him for not dying it, though.
