I know this is all about personal taste, which is very difficult to judge, but c'mon...She Didn't Know, for example, could possible be the best song they ever did.
We've definitely got that song on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Quote:Least favorite - Puttin' Down - simply because it was taking valuable time from something great on the last tour.
I love that song, how about we trade She Didn't Know for Puttin' Down, straight up?!!? Big Grin
well i would have to say thompson girl is by far my least favorite
Let's compare them to the songs in the new topic Smile
After listening to every full-length Hip album on the drives to and from the homestead over the Holiday weekend (Thanksgiving for us States-folk), I logged on here to start a thread on this topic, only to see that two such threads already exist (perhaps an administrator could consolidate the two). The reason for my inspiration?

Coconut Cream.

When I first heard this song, I laughed at it, thinking it was a joke of some sort (it seems I am not alone in my impressions). What an aberration. I am prone to being adverse to great pieces of music upon initial sampling, especially Hip cuts, and have learned to give all music sufficient consideration. But it’s been over seven years, and Cream just gets worse with age. I had always assumed that this track was the last to make the final cut, possibly due to some technical snafu or something. So, I explored the official site discography for a possible explanation, and came up with this (from Mark Vreeken, Co-Producer):

Quote:At the end of every week I made a compilation tape of all the songs we recorded that week. There would a bunch of different versions and they would pick the ones they liked best. In the week that followed they would refine those versions until the band was completely happy with them. A song like Coconut Cream was like that. They had played that song quite a bit and had plenty of different arrangements. When they did the version that's on the record the power went out at the very end of the take, that's why it doesn't have the usual cadence ending.

What a shame that the power-outage didn’t occur mid-take. Maybe they should have deliberated over this one just a day or two longer.

Anyway (I know this is lengthy, but get used to it - I post very infrequently, so when I do, you’re gonna get the full nine yards), there isn’t a single release that doesn’t have songs I regularly skip over. These include:

Up to Here - I’ll Believe in You / Everytime You Go
Road Apples - Born in the Water
Fully Completely - Lionized
Day For Night - Fire in the Hole (a favourite of many, but I loathe it - deal with it) / Impossibilium
Trouble at the Henhouse - The Hideous Coconut Cream
Phantom Power - Save the Planet (yes, I’m sure....loathe this one too)
Music @ Work - Tiger the Lion / The Bastard / Toronto #4 / As I Wind Down the Pines
In Violet Light - Use it Up (sometimes, only because of that stupid-ass chorus) / A Beautiful Thing

Well, that’s my nine-thousand cents. By the way....Saw too much mention of Sharks to pass up comment....to dislike this song, in my humble opinion, is to resist the essence of this band’s artistry - thick, dark, dynamic, and evocative. “Steal a look over your shoulder / at the chandeliers of your firmament.....”

Absolutely delicious.

Just picked up a new copy of Trouble at the Henhouse today(all of my cds were lost in a car accident and im slowly building up my collection again.) This has to be one of my top 3 hip albums of all time. awesome studio versions of 700 ft. ceiling, springtime and put it off, along with some gems that i forgot about like lets stay engaged and apartment song.

that being said, butts wigglin and coconut cream have to be my 2 least favorite hip songs of all time. those 2 songs just dont seem to fit in with the rest of the cd. if i had to choose my least favorite song by the band, id have to pick coconut, with butts being a close second. i'd like to hear other people's opinions on their least favorite hip song.

p.s. i did a search on this and found nothing recently. let me know if this was already discussed in a previous thread
Summers Killing Us and Puttin Down
I do not enjoy Eldorado.
Coconut Cream, without question.

I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time....

Really, you would consider it your least favorite?? It's right up there in my top 5.

My least favorite is easily Membership.
Interesting choices folks. I dig Eldorado, Putting Down and Summer. Least favorite tunes from me are: Flamenco and Tiger the Lion. I don't get Flamenco and I wanna tell Gord to leave the prog-rock to Yes or Genesis.

It amazes me that people do not like Flamenco. That song totally chills me out. Heres my vote for Butts Wigglin.
