After this past week, I am too pumped not to make a post. After some agonizing years, our dark days may be getting a little brighter...
My Panthers are in a Wild Card spot, and they pulled off a gut wrenching shootout last night, the likes of which I'll probably never see again.
They were down by 1 goal and needed to score to stay alive. They scored.
Then eventually the Caps scored again, putting more pressure on the Cats to score again to stay alive. ...And they did.
They did this three more times, scoring 5 shootout goals while facing elimination. In round #20, Big Bjugstad finally sealed the deal on the longest shootout in NHL history.
So, an entertaining year for the Panthers, after two years of tanking, has made me giddy for NHL again (*MEOW MEOW*).
Anybody else following this season?
It's nice to see my Leafs playing some consistentish hockey, too. I live in Edmonton. Anything is better than the Oilers.
Overall my Flames have been very good this year, considering they're only in year 2 of the rebuild. They're a young, exciting, hard-working, lunch bucket team who have surprised a lot of pundits, as well as the majority of the fan base. We've got one of the best defence pairings in the game right now with Mark Giordano and T.J. Brodie, and two legitimate future superstars in Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau. If you had told me at the beginning of the season that we'd be sitting 15th in the NHL and competing for a playoff spot, I would have said you were crazy. Lately they've come back down to earth though, and are currently mired in a 6 game losing skid. This happens to young teams, so I'm not all that concerned about it. If they can find a way to get out of their current funk and get back in the win column, I think they might have a legitimate shot at squeaking into the playoffs this year.
I should also mention that as a life-long Flames fan, I am enjoying every second of the dumpster fire up the road from us. The Oilers are so bad, they have no choice but to blow it up again and rebuild the rebuild. Unreal.
The Flames have definitely been a surprise to me as well! I'd say the biggest movers up the ladder in the west would be the Calgary Flames and the Winnipeg Jets, and in the east it would be the Florida Panthers, New York Islanders, and Nashville Predators.
sad to watch the Bruins sliding...
Traded away too much heart and soul with Boychuck and Thorton

Glad to see the hockey talk is back up again on the base.
Islanders look very strong; the way they've done their rebuild oughta serve as a lesson to the Oilers. The Panthers will live and die by Bobby Lu and while the Bruins are faltering, I can't see them giving up a wild card spot to the Panthers. They've put together some nice pieces but I don't think there will be enough left in the tank down the stretch. Hopefully though attendance goes up and they can attract a few more pieces next year. Ekblad is a fantastic kid to build a team around.
The Leafs are gonna Leaf it up at some point, the only question is for how long. This upcoming road trip will be a big test for the team; the amount of goals they score isn't reflective of how dodgy they've been playing at times.
I've been doing lots of NHL writing for VICE Sports (

I feel bad for Connor McDavid. Edmonton is likely where he's going to end up, provided the Oilers can out-suck Carolina. That kid is probably sitting at home praying for Oiler wins.
i've been really enjoing the sunday night hometown hockey with ron maclean & will probably check it out in charlottetown next month
also killin in 4 different pools

not exactly sure WTF that is supposed to mean ?
Care to enlighten me ?
I don't get out much.....
Well, after their longest winning streak of the season, my boys have followed it up with their longest loosing streak of the season.
Panthers have a week off now and hopefully they get their shit together.
I've watched them be bottom dwellers for far too long to see them get this close and eff it up.

I have been following Nashville for the last 8 or so years. But this year I forgot to watch any Hockey. I love Nashville because its only a 10 hour drive from Cambridge and you can sit row 3 behind the bench for $75. Plus if you show your ticket stub, the local gas station gives you $5 in free gas, plus beer is cheap and food is cheap, plus its right down town fuckin Nashville, cheap parking, lots of live music, Nashville just might be the best place to go see hockey and stay for a week, we could actually afford to take our 2 kids and stay a week and go to 3 games in 1 week and eat and see some sights and it was still cheaper than a weekend in Toronto to see 1 leafs game with hotel and parking and food. Go figure.

No kidding. Blech.
Well it took yas injuring both my goalies and getting our goalie coach to suit up, but the Leafs finally won a road game in 2015.
