I hope this is the first of several announcements!

*Yawn* I hope this isn't the only big announcement. A Hip show in Toronto is about as common as the sun rising. Let's hope there's some more interesting news forthcoming.

i remember when i was 17 a free hip show would have been the biggest news to me !

Free is not good anymore

Don't get me wrong. If the Hip announced a free show in Calgary, I'd probably be pretty excited, because it never happens. But as I said, surprise Hip shows in Toronto are a dime a dozen.

I wonder if this is going to be a full concert or a small 5-10 song "greatest hockey hits" type set list show.

I would bet so much money on this ...

With the tour rumors for the winter, I'd guess they are using this show as a launch of a tour announcement similar to bands that play the Super Bowl announcing tours the day after. Not to say at all that this is the magnitude of a Super Bowl half time show, but it's at least some national exposure.
Also, there wouldn't have been the, "join the mailing list" post on Facebook from Mav if it was only this one event.

It says a lot about the state of things with this band when their most dedicated and fervent fans are yawning at a free show. Even more given that the band hasn't played live in ages.
And the thing is, I completely agree with direwolf. This is such a gimme: TTH performing on Rogers for the start of the NHL season? Imagine what non-fans are going to think. "Oh, of course The Hip are opening for Hockey Night in Canada." This band is on the verge of becoming so one-dimensional it's scary.
But hey, Fireworks everyone! Bobby Orr! Don Cherry thumbs up good Canadian boys!

I am totally pumped for this, should be awesome. Hearing the sound of The Hip reverberating through the downtown is going to be cool.
