If you had a friend who had never heard of The Hip and you could only play them ONE song to hook them, what one song would you choose and why?
My vote : Three Pistols because it shows everything that this band is about - killer guitar, great vocals, obscure lyrics(!) and the best ending to a song in their catalogue! (IMO)
Your vote??
I'd say its a tie between Hundredth Meridian, Little Bones and maybe Courage.
Been pretty boring around here...this is hard but I will say Ahead by a Century
Indeed......Nautical Disaster.
That was the song that sold me on the Hip.
Stay
I know it's a weird one to pick but I like to introduce folks to the Tragically Hip with mellow Hip. I have also found Music at Work to be a good introduction album. If I go with an ass kicker I que up Live Double Suicide.
One I've had luck with semi-lately is Family Band. (great live capture from seven years ago today-ish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-GDB0MXimY)
Also, the obvious: New Orleans is Sinking. I'd heard Fully Completely a few times, but this is the song that finally hooked me.
The mighty Chagrin Falls.
gotta be generic like Grace Too or ABAC....although i always feel the latter has too much of a DMB vibe and may be misleading
I would start them off with classics.
If a rocker, I would think Little bones. If a softer tone is needed, Fiddler's Green.
To me NOIS summarizes who the Hip are, but maybe that's just because it was the song that set the hook for me. I had heard Blow and Boot Or Hearts a few times and liked them a lot, but as soon as I hear NOIS, that was it for me, done deal, lifetime fan.
Ya, its a beat down setlist warhorse song now, but when done right, it still a fantastic song to hear. When done right that is..........
Has to be Cordelia - the stickiness is abundant.
