Hi everyone -

I am not particularly fond of boots that are compilations of songs from different shows. Because of this, I have been on a quest to determine where exactly the songs on Glastonbury and elsewhere come from.

After having listened to this boot extremely closely, I have come to the conclusion that there are three different sources for this show, possibly four. before I go on to explain this, let me give a track listing so that we are all on the same page.

1. Locked
2. Springtime
3. IOD
4. Scared
5. Fully
6. Nautical
7. Looking
8. Meridian
9. Fully (again)
10. Wherewithal
11. Locked (again)
12. Courage
13. El Do
14. 50 MC
15. I'll Believe in you

Okay. So, as near as I can determine, tracks 1-6 come from one source, tracks 7 & 8 come from another source, tracks 9-14 come from another source, and track 15 comes from yet another source.

I've arrived at this conclusion by carefully listening to what is going on during the last few seconds of one track as it transitions into the next track. Also if you listen to the characteristics of the recording itself, especially the drums, you can tell that there are altogether different recordings (not to mention that two songs are on the boot twice).

I think I've pinned down the first recording, tracks 1-6, to be some time in 1995. The fact that Springtime is in this portion of the recording but no other TATH songs are tells me that it was during the DFN tour and that Springtime was being played as a brand new song.

Tracks 9-14 are likely the portion of the boot that comes from Glastonbury (if in fact any of it really does come from Glastonbury). Gord introduces Courage with a line from Nautical - "4000 men died in the water, and 500 were thrashing madly." If DFN had been released yet, he wouldn't have referenced Nautical to intro Courage. The Glastonbury show was in July of 94; DFN was released later that year.

That leaves tracks 7, 8 & 15. These three may actually come from the same show, or perhaps 15 comes from somewhere else. Anyway, does anyone have any idea where these tracks are from?

More importantly, does anyone know where tracks 1-6 are from? I've searched the setlists and cannot find any show that has a "run" of Locked, Springtime, IOD, Scared, Fully, Nautical in that order.

Any help is appreciated.

Wow, great work!
thats what I was trying to say also on another thread,I know for a fact that atleast 6 of those songz come from the Dallas Tree's gig of 8-12-95! here's my setlist on my boot for that gig;
->Grace
->Inch
->Locked ***
->springtime ***
->eldorado ***
->greasy
->100th ***
->gift
->IOD ***
disk 2
->Fight
->scared ***
->fully ***
->nautical ***
->NOIS
->daredevil
->Blow

the 'Starred" ones are without a doubt the ones on Glastonbury, i even question wether or not they played there Confusedcratch: If they did i must have been sleeping for that entire year or,and you know they always show that gig on MMusic,don't they Confusedcratch:,we woulda seen it there.and we would have got something in our Tales from the Hip stating they were gonna do that gig. if they did play the Glastonbury gig then they are right, beer does burn brain cells 8)
and just an after-thought i had,thats why i say that that Dallas gig from 95 has to be all in its entirety on soundboard somewhere in some far off corner of the Bath House(the vault) stacked amongst all those other soundboard shows from over the years that we can only assume are there........right
Good work - thanks for the information!!

Let's clarify a few things. You mentioned that the starred selections on your Dallas boot are also found on the Glastonbury and Elsewhere boot. The songs you have starred are Locked, Springtime, El Do, 100th, IOD, Scared, fully and Nautical. I am curious if you have a copy of Glastonbury and Elsewhere to compare to your Dallas boot, because even though El Do and 100th are indeed on the Glastonbury boot, I'm virtually positive that they are from entirely different sources than the other tracks you named.

in other words, it seems sensible enough to believe that the first six tracks on the G&E boot are from Dallas, BUT at that point in the boot, the source changes for tracks 7 & 8, and then again for the remainder of the boot (not including I'll Believe in You). So it makes me skeptical that the version of Meridian on G&E is the same as from Dallas '95, and the same for El Do.

Is your Dallas boot on CD? If so, maybe could you rip it and upload it to the Meridian FTP? I'd love to hear it and make a comparison.

thanks again,

Brian mc
Yop :wink: on 2nd re-examination,it turns out that the only tunes on that Dallas 95 gig that are on G&E(i like how you put that) are;
->locked
->Springtime
->IOD
->Scared
->Nautical
and yop I got this on cd,but I got no way to rip this or put this onto a ftp,first off cuase i lack the skills involved to perform such duties(prawly the last dude on earth with this inabilty Confusedcratch: ) and even if i did know how do said task, my internet connection is running on dail-up( the agony is sometimes UnBEARABLE :censored )
Is it safe to assume that you meant to include Fully in your list of confirmed tracks that are on both boots? Smile
Safe To Assume :thumb:
I typed Glastonbury Tragically Hip into google.com to see if I could find a list of past performers at the festival (or maybe they just played at some pub in Glastonbury and not the festival?) and found a site where you can buy the bootleg for $25.00 US!.

I can't believe the shit some people try to pull.
i have the origional, and everything came with it. it was a radio promo, that came in the same setup as roxy & elsewhere. the side sheet i got with it had a full breakdown of tracks, let me find it and scan it, post soon!
so the original has each individual track info, as in where it was recorded, etc?? that would RULE! hook that up, brutha!

thanks!
