It's been a while since a song really reached me the way We Want To Be It is right now. I love everything about this song...the music, lyrics, and especially the vocal performance from Gord. It's so earnest, it just grabs hold of me and doesn't let go. I've been spinning this song on repeat for most of the last 2 days and I'm not sure when that will stop. I'm so glad the Hip are still producing great music; this might be my favourite Hip tune ever, and they've had 13 albums now? Crazy...
Agreed, my favourite so far, with Transformation a close second.
instant classic Hip song. and i mean instant.

i saw it live last year, in the rain. nobody in the crowd knew it. people went nuts. best reaction to new material Ive ever seen by any band. quite the moment.

I could not agree more. I can't stop listening to it. It's my new Depression Suite. In a very undepressing way.
In all honesty, when I first heard it last year I really didn't like it. But this song has grown on me so much and I think it's now my favourite on the album.

Maybe I am reading too much into it and the interview with Gord talking about his wife, but it just seems you can feel the pain and heartache in Gord's voice.........just makes it that much more powerful of a song.
Yup. Love it. Love it. Having had a family member go through chemotherapy after breast cancer, "Drip drip drip" makes so much sense..."how'd you get so wrecked?'...so beautiful.
agreed!
best song on the cd imo
OMG!! What a Song!!!

That was my exact thought as well. The whole opening about getting so zen really stuck a cord as well. When we were going through that battle it was my mother, the one that had cancer, that seemed to be dealing with it the best. Calm and collective from beginning to the unfortunate end.

I think anyone that has been through the hell that cancer brings to a family knows that helpless, distressed feeling.........makes it such a powerful song.
I also love We Want To Be It,, also Done and Done, the way Gord sings Through and Through is very nice. Also Now For Plan A is killer too. This album enters my Hip Album Chart around number 5 out of the 13.
When I first heard the album, via Sirius when they were streaming it, a lot of the songs didn't really jump out at me. But when I finally got my hands on the CD and gave it a good few listens, it really grew on me. WWTBI really struck me at first, and still does, but the other mellow tunes, like NFPA, and Done and Done really grew on me. Done and Done was my least favourite song on the album, but I've really come to appreciate it.

I have to say the vocal performance throughout the album is fantastic. There are so many moving moments; it's a great album start to finish.
Best song in 10 years.....amazing. This and Man Machine Poem....are epic. MMP could easily fit between Greasy Jungle and SHDB with its simple lyrics, chorus, and awesome chord progression. Makes me think of what IVL could have been if percussion-heavy Padgham didn't produce it.
All our friends gave us a week........and we're still happening as we speak. Effing awesome.

Ya, that's one of his best lines ever...I also love the whole second verse. Smartest man in the room; might was well be on the moon....cause all I'm hearing is you.

Talk about a lesson in lyric writing!
