So, a friend of mine has been bugging me to check out RAA for a while. After buying my ticket to the show in NOTL this summer, I decided to check them out. I bought Departing earlier this week. Man, I'm really liking it. The Breakup is a personal favourite so far. I'm also detecting some serious Billy Corgan in Nils Edenloff's voice. Any other fans of RAA out there?

Also, now that I live in Edmonton (and I realize Edenloff now lives in Toronto), I really like the references to northern Alberta. Really cool.

You might say I'm a fan.

As somebody who's moved from Alberta to Ontario, I appreciate all the references. I've seen them live a few times now and they're always great. Liked the first album a fair bit better than the second, but it's still really good - just could have used another higher tempo song or two on the back half.

Edmonton's A great Song!

I got into this band right before their second LP came out, and they were easily my favourite (and most listened to) band of last year. Got to see them at Osheaga and during the Halifax Pop Explosion, making for a couple of wicked shows. The only thing, both times I feel like their live performances lack some energy that are found in their songs. Maybe it was just the shows I saw, but nonetheless they were excellent.

Barnes' Yard and The Ballad of the RAA are definitely my jams.

I downloaded Departing and Hometowns from itunes this morning, and have been listening to the albums ever since.
I haven't come accross a song I haven't liked - so far the songs that have captivated me most are "Coldest Days" & "Don't Haunt This Place".

I am curious about the Juno nomination process. But regardless, I am happy that the groups and artists in the "new" categories are finally getting recognized.

One of my cousins died in that Tornado. Of course, I was 6 so I have no recollection of this, but it's still a bit weird.

Sorry to hear that. I was just talking to a guy this week who was working as an electrician on the east side when it hit. He ran into their office to tell his co-workers to get down and the building collapsed. They were trapped for more than 20 minutes until people on top were able to dig them out. Sounds like the whole thing was terrifying. Especially strange for a city that rarely gets a tornado to suddenly get an F4-F5.

Here's a video of a show they did at The Phoenix in Austin last year. Nine songs. Paul Banwatt is a beast on the drums.
