Pearl Jam's 'Jimmy Fallon' Debut Will Be Twice as Nice
"Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" has a double Pearl Jam treat in store in early September. As part of its ongoing twentieth anniversary celebration, the Seattle band will be the musical guest on the NBC show on both Sept. 8 and Sept. 9. In addition, Cameron Crowe -- who directed the "Pearl Jam Twenty" documentary due next month -- will also be on the show on Sept. 8.

Pearl Jam and Crowe's upcoming appearance on "Late Night," tweeted by Fallon himself today, follows on the heels of the group's "Pearl Jam Twenty" festival Sept. 3-4 in Wisconsin and the kick-off of its Canadian tour Sept. 7 in Montreal. After "Fallon," the band and the director are reportedly headed north for the premiere of the "Pearl Jam Twenty" documentary on Sept. 10 at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The pair of September appearances marks the first time Pearl Jam has appeared on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," however guitarist Mike McCready has previously sat in with house band The Roots, guitarist Stone Gossard has previously performed on the show with his other band Brad, and McCready and bassist Jeff Ament have performed with their side project Tres Mts.
In other "Late Night" news, Fallon also tweeted today that he'll be hosting "Saturday Night Live" on Dec. 17th, with musical guest Michael Bublé. Former "SNL" castmember Fallon has repeatedly returned for guest appearances, but he has never previously hosted the show.

MGMT will cover Piper at the Gates of Dawn's "Lucifer Sam" tonight, and country recording artist Dierks Bentley will perform "Wish You Were Here" on Thursday.
Anyone else hope that The Hip are reading this and saying, "Damn, our fans are talking more about Pearl Jam lately that us. We better get our asses in gear!"

It's definitely been quiet in Hip land lately. I think that might be a good thing though. Let them take their time with the new album and don't rush the process. The album just might end up being better as a result. I just hope when the new record drops and they finally hit the road for an extended tour, that they learn from Pearl Jam's example and start mixing up the setlists again. The summer tour was fun, and I really enjoyed the three new songs, but the identical setlists every night was a major bummer. The Hip are better than that, as proven by EVERY previous tour that they've done. Pearl Jam has been a great substitute with all their activity lately: the 20th anniversary, the documentary, the book, the Canadian tour. It's been awesome! I've been on a huge bootleg kick lately, as I recently downloaded a bunch more PJ shows to add to my ever growing collection. Such a fantastic band. Can't wait until the official Canadian bootlegs show up in the PJ store. Which reminds me, whatever happened to the Hip's "Live From the Vault" series?? Seriously, they need to put some more of these up for sale in the Gift Shop, if only to help tide us over until the new album/tour.

Live From The Vault never worked for the same reason The Hip Club from 2002 never worked; the band didn't take it seriously enough. While I mean no disrespect, let's bring it back to PJ. The Ten Club is an entity all its own. They've got their own offices, employees, people dedicated to making sure that Fan Club singles, merch (Who does merch better than PJ?), bootlegs, it all gets out to their fans.
Part of the reason PJ is such an enigma in the music biz is that they do these things for their fans. They recognize that they can't give them new albums every two years anymore (Same as The Hip) and that touring is great, but it can only go so far, so PJ created this company that would satisfy people's cravings for all things PJ. And it works, becos people friggin' crave that band.
Why haven't The Hip understood that they have equally fanatical fans? While the fans might not be as wide-scale as PJ fans, I think we can all agree that we eat up any new t-shirt, poster, whatever the band throws our way. Just look at how much action the "Hip stuff on Ebay" thread gets.
PJ hasn't put out a record since 2009, and we probably won't see one til late 2012. But it's OK, cos fans have mountains of old bootlegs to go feed their PJ desire. When will The Hip realize that with so much new music out there for consumers to take in, that unless they stay current (And innovative) they could risk losing fans? PJ's fanbase is strong becos they know they're appreciated. Half-ass efforts like THC and LFTV sometimes have me wondering.
And let me just say that Mav, I know yer doing yer part, I mean no disrespect to all that you provide to the 'base.

It's weird that the Hip aren't on the ball with this kind of stuff. If I remember correctly, they were actually one of the first big bands to have a real Internet presence back in '95/'96.
