Great show, good venue...similar setlist to recent shows, with trick rider added in the first set. Did see a video rig setup near the back, so hopefully this will find it's way to the tracker.
Gotta say, this band is on fire right now, they are so tight live, lots of sweet jams, etc. And steeplechase live is just bloody amazing! While I'll always be partial to the hip, I could totally handle seeing more gd and tcom shows, especially with how much less annoying the fans are at these shows. While so many shows fail to deliver the bang for the buck with high tix prices, these gd shows are amazing value, and money very well spent.

--exactly how, possibly standing up the whole time? I think if us basers pulled that' together it would prove to be an everrlasting showw .. just throwing it out their .. From wat i remeber from lightfoot/downie gig -its pretty tamed venue.

i was referring to standing at the toronto upcoming friday venue in response to thecompletist talking about using it up at the toronto upcoming friday venue .. : ) should of posted in GD TORonto

Just FYI the Lightfoot event Took place at a different venue than this Fridays Downie show.

It was an entertaining evening in a comfortably full venue. The crowd was enthusiastic and Gord Downie & TCOM seemed to become more energized as the show progressed. Gord's creativeness was on full display. He wore many hats as he switched between his roles of back drop designer, lead guitarist and singer/poet.
Gord's use of the overhead projector to produce back drop images behind the band is unique. His mixtures of mineral oils, food coloring, hot water and figurines produced both thoughtful and disturbing images. He made psychedelic tie dye designs with squiggly sperm cells swimming about, there were images of people floating balloons from buildings as birds flew by, and the erie, blackend, smoldering highrise buildings with airplanes flying into them as Steeplechase was played.
This is my 4th show of this tour and I've noticed Gord's guitar playing is more competent and prominent. He played the lead for parts of some songs and he played acoustically by himself on others. TCOM showed their musical artistry with fantastic jam sessions to end Vancouver Divorce and Christmastime in Toronto. Julie Doiron, Josh Finlayson and Dave Clarke switched instruments occassionally to keep the energy of the band and the crowd flowing together, while Dr. P pounded out the rhythm on his keyboards along with Dale Morningstar's howling licks.
The final encore was a roller coaster. A rocking version of Ventilator Blues was played as Gord sang with heartfelt bravado. The mood dipped with the somber and thoughtful Broadcast and then we were brought up to cresendo with Neil Young's, When You Dance. The show ended with Gord quietly reciting and singing the verses to Insomniacs of the World Goodnight.
My wife and I were standing in the front row between Julie and Gord. To begin the 2nd set, Gord knelt down on the stage to gather some supplies to create the next backdrop when a woman yelled out, "I love you Gord!" Gord's reply was off mike and could only be heard by those nearby. He said, "Wait 'til you get to know me..." I had to chuckle.
After the show, Gord may have been surprised to find 25 die hard fans waiting for him outside the tour bus in the cold fall morning. He had just completed a scheduled "meet & greet" inside the venue for a different group of fans. He looked slightly exhausted from the show and I'm sure he wanted to just get on the bus and sleep as the band traveled to their next gig. Gord was very gracious and signed autographs and took pictures with everyone. We were able to get a hand shake and a few words with Gord. A memorable end to the evening.

Truee. thnx , i confused her. I was last at the Queen E theatre for Puscifer !
