great effort from the band, ruined by the crowd and the venue.
Combo of horribly timed feedback (one awful one on last note of a song) and drunk "fans" not happy hip greatest hits werent being played (who borderline heckled gord at various parts of the show) set gord off!
During the encore, he ripped the hat of the one of the idiots described above, tossed it across the room and stormed off the stage. I wasnt right at the front so if someone could tell me what exactly the guy was doing....
BTW songs were amazing live, band has a great sound.
I was there too! Songs were amazing live! The band is so great and have great chemistry! The songs? Amazing live!! The integrated art work is pretty awesome, too. Big highlights for me were Starpainters, Yellow Days, Vancouver Divorce, Chancellor, and I think Steeplechase might have been my fave! The whole show was great. Loved every song. Gord is getting pretty awesome at guitar too... really a far cry from the Henhouse days. He again solidified the decision I made when I was 16 that he is the COOLEST PERSON EVER. I mean, he totally is.
Unfortunately, there was one guy in the audience that tried his hardest to ruin the show for everyone. I mean, there were a few grating people, but one "heckler" that was just awful. I stood in line behind him at the bar before the show and he was super annoying. Loud, obnoxious... pretty sure his collar was probably popped.

He got cashback at the bar, backing up the line for like 15 minutes. Who gets cash back at a bar??? I found this particularly funny and told my brother and hubby when I finally came back from getting my water. He yelled in between songs, he yelled during songs, and he ruined Insomniacs... not to mention Gord really did seem to be in a sour mood towards the end of the set, and I couldn't even blame him. But, people around me trying to enjoy the show as well eventually told the heckler to shut the f up towards the end of the night. It wasn't the WHOLE crowd... there were people there who were really into it! Gord was the first one off the stage after angrily tossing that guy's hat. I was close but didn't see what they were doing. But, there was lots of chatter from the audience during quieter stuff... some seemed generally disinterested. I, on the other hand, spent two hours (almost) completely mesmerized.
I hope in time I remember this show for how great it was and not for the couple of people who probably stopped buying Hip albums in '93. Because the songs are all SO GOOD live! And the band is great.

Can't wait for Pembroke next Saturday. Hopefully the bros won't be there too.

Well said, Shannon! I personally wish something worse would have happened to that jackass -- inconsiderateness during great art is cause for castration, in my books!

Lol!! Completely agree! People were confronting the guy outside the club after ("Were you the heckler?" *proudly* "Hell yeah!") but we were eating hot dogs inside La Belle Province (yessss!!) before he maybe got told.
GREAT art! I wish I had a fraction of the amazing creativity that Gord has bursting at the seams.
I took the train out from Toronto yesterday morning (with the sad Mtl. Alouettes lamenting their terrible loss the night before to the Ti-Cats).
Well, I really enjoyed this show (despite the hecklers). Apparently the guy spent $150 on beer (so much so that he had a box for his empties set in front of him on the stage). He was the guy that kept yelling "focus" during Steeplechase. Anyway, talking to Gord afterwards, he said he was annoyed, and the whole night was just not going right (this guy, the feedback from the board, etc.).
This was the first time I had witnessed the projector. It was cool, and obviously well thought out on Gord's part.
I waited outside after the show to get the fall tour poster signed. We must have waited for about 1.5hrs, but Billy Ray stood there and talked to us for a while and told us stories - including the one of how he came to join the Hip.
He also told us that the Hip would tour in August 2011. Take that as you will!
I'll post my pics when I get home. I used the video feature to get all of the East Wind. Gord did it solo acoustic, with Julie coming out to join him on the last verse.

Ah yes, the Hip's annual tour of summer festivals. It's a Canadian tradition! Here's hoping the boys will debut some new material in 2011. I'm happy to hear you guys enjoyed the show last night. Gord really is in classic form on this tour, and the band is freakin' awesome. Their show in Calgary a couple of weeks ago was incredible. I've been to a ridiculous amount of concerts in my time, and that show was easily one of the best live music experiences of my life. Luckily there were no drunken hecklers at that show and the crowd was absolutely enthralled from start to finish. The overhead projector stuff adds a really cool element to the show I think. Gord seems to be in really good spirits right now and the guy is just bursting with energy and creativity. I can't wait to see how that energy carries over into the next Hip project.

It was quite the range from “Playful Gord” during Moon Over Glenora to “Beyond Pissed-Off Gord” from the middle of the second set to the end of the show.
During Gord’s introduction to Gone, the heckler started yelling out what I can only assume he thought were brilliant Nazi jokes. It was enough to throw anyone off their game. Gord said something to the effect of the crowd not being interested in any more introductions, then started up Gone at what seemed like three times the speed of the recording. It was terrible and yup, no more introductions the rest of the night.
They pulled it together on the majority of the remaining songs, despite the heckler. Broadcast and Steeplechase were beautiful, and Gord channelled his anger into a great version of Going, Going Gone, but, overall the show was ruined by one dude with a $150 bar tab.
