Strombo worries me sometimes but he did a great job. Downie was eager to share some pretty interesting things including the fact he just recently found out his "old man" plays the piano, and how no one really knows each other. He commented he now thinks he needed another 800 years to get to know his dad. Also went on about his kids, particularly his 9 year old son who plays drums and how they occasionally jam together - family band or what?

Also got a good chuckle when Strombo asked him about the meaning of the term "The Grand Bounce". Gordie went on to explain it comes from an American Civil War novel he recently read where the term is used to describe soldiers deserting their posts, to which George commented back if this was some subtle way of describing Gord's parting from the Hip. Classic expression on Gordie, who went on to explain he realized the repercussions of the meaning of the title only after the project had gone to print. Almost made it sound he would have changed it if he had the chance.

All in all a very good interview, well worth the watch.

I remember when Strombo interviewed Gord for the World Container release special on CBC the weekend before it came out. He kept repeating the same question but wording it differently each time. Gord kept answering him the exact same way every time but looked like he wanted to express more, to say something more, but Strombo was holding him back. I think hosting "The Hour" has thankfully helped his interviewing skills. He did a great job last night. I almost want to say i wish he had been the one interviewing the two Gords back in February. I think he would have let Downie ask more to Lightfoot of what he wanted.

I did not get a chance to see it anyone know where I can view it? Is it up on The Hour site yet?

I forgot this was on. I laid down for bed, flipped on the TV and CBC was on playing some Hip.

I had to laugh when Gord couldn't name that song from the new Hip cd, with the lyric "who are you", I thougth someone in the audience would yell it out or even Strombo...

You know, I like Strombo as much as the next guy but I have a big problem (well it annoys me at least) with The Hour and how it insanely edits down their interviews for broadcast. Drives me CRAZY!!! :nooooo

Yup, they should post the unedited interviews on the Hours page...

Ya it needs to be more than an hour long... sometimes an interview is getting interesting and then suddenly it's done. I guess the show would need a new name...
