Good call! That tune always reminded me of something else, and you've just nailed it. It definitely sounds like something that might have appeared on an old TPOH record. I still dig the song though. When they play it live, it never fails to rock the house.

There was never enough going on in LIAF- lyrically or musically- to hold my attention. Altough it does get quite the reaction when played live.

It is definitely entertaining (after all, nothing wrong with TPOH, is there?). I do wish Gord's rant in it was really top-drawer, though - since it's the only rant ever recorded on a major Hip album.
Actually, one of the keys to WATS to me is that MANY of the songs on it remind me of other performers. For instance, it seems plain as a northern pike to me that 'The Struggle Has a Name' is the Hip trying their hands at a U2 song. And 'Honey Please' immediately made me think of Ron Sexsmith. The chorus of 'Country Day' is straight Willie Nelson. 'Morning Moon' I can't place, except that it sounds very country-rock, 1970s. And there's probably other examples. I enjoy this aspect of the album - it takes you somewhere musically. (Then again, an epic song like 'The Last Recluse' could ONLY have been written by Gordon Downie, so it's not like the record is a pastiche)
Still maybe not one of my favourite albums but somewhere in the middle of the list for sure. Struggle is always skipped when I listen to the entire album, I agree with some people that it sounds like an experiment, like World Container.
Struggle should have been scratched for Skeleton Park it fits the album more in my opinion.
As for WC, Pretend would have made an AWESOME acoustic song as someone posted Gord playing it acoustic alone. Its too twangy and keybordy and overproduced on the album.
