I have 160 ipod classic that I manage with Rhythmbox for Linux Mint. This weekend I went to Saint John and plugged my iPod into a Dell w/ XP. Everything was fine. Ejected... enjoyed a car ride to Fredericton. Arrived in Fredericton, plugged my iPod into my laptop with Linux. All the music appeared on the iPod/in Rhythmbox. At one point rhythmbox froze. I shut the program down and ejected the iPod. I started the program back up, and connected my iPod. This time no music appeared on my computer. I ejected and there was no music being read by the iPod. I did a reset of the iPod OS, no music.
I searched through the files of my iPod... all the music is still on the iPod in the weird JXOD.mp3 files iPods make.
Is there anyway to find out if there is a file missing that bridges the gap so that my computer and my iPod can read / detect these files? My music is not backed up, and I would certainly love to not have to format.
Any help / suggestions would be appreciated!

Try opening it with Sharepod? Its another (windows based) ipod reader that will just passively read the ipod. Its good if u want to transfer movies or music off to someones machine or back without itunes.

Sounds like its an issue with where u plugged it in, might have removed access to the files becuase it wasnt your itunes account on the machine. Youll probably have to copy off with Sharepod (if it works, should do) then format and reset, then get the music back on there from where-ever you put it.

But try sharepod, its a goodun. Lets u put it on the ipod itself too, so u can run it from any machine, regardless of itunes being installed.
