Well, I became a fan of the Hip back when I was in college, mid-80's. One of my all-time favourite bands and one of the only that I will now actually travel to see. Nowadays, I only catch them once per tour but each time is well worth the effort and time.

Everyone here has their own reasons for listening to this band and I am still awed by their resilience to leave my cd player.

I introduced my son to the Hip a few years ago, 2004, because he was digging "Makeshift We Are" while driving one day. I have slowly eased him into the Hip environment: cds, music videos, and tour dvds. Of course, also my hyperbolated concert stories.

So, my son wants to see the Hip this year. I told him that he is (probably/maybe/my ex will be pissed) able to go on the next tour. The band has been so good the last few years that I think that it is prime time for him to see them.

Oh yeah, my son is 10; but wise beyond his years................the next generation!!!!
Why would your ex be pissed? It's The Hip for Christ's sake.
Im really pleased at seeing how many university students actually appreciate the Hip. Just when i think im the only one that listens to them, someone always fires off a fb status update with their lyrics or something in them. Its really neat to see them grow with time, but still appreciate the real raw stuff they pumped out to get started. I think theres a bit for everyone to enjoy, no matter the age. :thumb:
My kids (7, 5, 3) have all been 'Hipped' throughout their lives, but without too heavy a playing so I don't turn them off to it as 'Dad's music'

I love that my kids like music, from my eldest digging Foo Fighters, the 3 year old daughter rocking out to KoL 'Socks' on fire, and the middle child liking the Glee soundtrack (although he thinks Aphex twin is scary)

I was brought up on Floyd, Zep, DP, Yes on my dad's side, and Tyrannasourous Rex and the like on my mum's, and I want that musical appreciation to continue for my three..

If any of them start listening to 'Stickleback' I'm disowning them though...

In Winnipeg, at the U of M occassionally see people wearing Hip merch so...yeah I guess that's "My Generation" in the under-25s. I personally got the tote bag last tour and it's a freakin magnet for other Hip fans on campus and at libraries etc to comment on.
When I saw the Hip in San Francisco last year, the crowd was incredibly diverse: 40-somethings, college/university students, teenagers, punk-rocker types, and parents with their young kids in tow. I spotted one young girl in the front row who couldn't have been more than 13 or 14-years old rockin' out and singing along to every lyric. It was great.
my kids we brought up with The Hip as a musical background in our house

My son (26 now) can take them or leave them , my daughter (21 now) is a rabid fan

We have been together for many live shows now

Some of my most memorable shows with her on my arm
