Are there any Hip fans out there who have google wave? I just started playing around with it and already, I can see it being really amazing for music fans.
Add: the-tragically-hip-band@googlegroups.com to join the new google group, which I set up so we could have a public a Google Wave
Yeah, I've had one for a while; music has, so far, been the one area where I can see it being useful, but I haven't really played around with that aspect of it. I got in pretty early on in the beta and absolutely could not handle how slow it was (they usually started out all right, but as more people showed up and the wave got bigger, it also got exponentially slower), so I decided to put it aside until it was more ready for prime-time. For the Hip, though, I will give it another shot. That was several months ago (six?), so hopefully it's better by now.
If anyone needs an invite, I have a pile of them; PM me your email address and I'll toss one your way.
The privs are maybe weird on that thing? I have no idea how public waves work, but I tried to say hi and it won't let me. There's no error message, but when I click on your bottom-most message, the 'reply' option is not selectable, and when I click 'reply' in the top menu, nothing happens. I don't know if you have to add people individually, or set global permissions, or maybe you don't want Just Anyone to be able to edit, but I completely failed to say hello over there and thought I'd let you know.

I have been looking around Wave for awhile - but I get confused by it easily.
catechism - did you join the Hip group? I only see two members.

Oh, interesting. That isn't what I think of at all as being 'public.' At any rate, I've now joined, and can actually edit the wave. Thanks; I'm not sure I'd've thought of that.

Did you join just by adding the-tragically-hip-band@googlegroups.com to your contacts?
Full set of instructions for doing stuff in the wave.
- Join the google group, which you do by going here and clicking 'join this group.'
- Go to google wave (http://wave.google.com). This requires a wave account; it's in limited beta right now so you need to get invited. I continue to have a pile of invites, so feel free to PM me with your email address and I'll send you one. I have no idea how long it will take to arrive; it might be instantly, or it might be a few weeks. I really don't know.
- Add the google group as a contact, if it's not already showing up: the-tragically-hip-band@googlegroups.com. There's a 'contacts' panel on the left with a + at the bottom; that's how you add new contacts.
- Click on the contact you just created. You should get a little pop-up box with a button for 'group waves.' Click it, and then you'll see the list up at the top of the page. There's one called 'The Tragically Hip - Public Wave' that is, I believe, what we're talking about. It's at least what I am talking about at the moment.
- Marvel at google's idea of the future of the internets. Waves are not all that intuitive (I don't think so, anyway), so if you're new, you might want to spend a few minutes with the various tutorials and screencasts. Then say hi! So far, MAv has posted some stuff and I have rambled about how sad I am about the death of geocities. Obviously someone other than me needs to be contributing.
And to answer a question people are asking me in PMs: No, wave does not require you to be using google chrome. It is a little faster, and there are wave-specific plugins available for chrome that make things nicer, but I tend to run it in firefox with only the regular argh-firefox/too-many-tabs-open/waves-are-confusing frustrations.
ETA: Forgot to say, to get this wave to show up in your inbox, click the little 'follow' button at the top. That way you won't have to try to find it again later.

I think the best use of this will be for exploring the meaning of songs and for sharing concert information.
Other than that - not really sure. Google Wave is not intuitive to me either and I basically don't use it - but recently read a thing from a guy who says he now loves it. So I am giving it a real try. . . . oh, and I am on a mac now and run it as a desktop client. Like tweetdeck, but it is called "waveboard".

Oooh, I didn't know about waveboard. I've got it now, though, and it seems better and faster than just trying to run it in a browser. Thanks!
Doh... I'm not allowed to PM until I post 10 things... can you email the invite for wave?

need you email address: email me at tth AT thehip Dot com and I will send you an invite
Thanks for the invite Catechism. I have signed up and found the Hip wave but I have no idea what the heck to do. I can't seem to even say 'hi".
Can someone please send me an invite to google wave. I've wanted to get one for a while

Apparently you need to join the google-group - I am trying to find out if there is another way.
I have tried the Wave a few times, still don't get it.
The Hip must be the first band on Wave.
