After 12 albums and 20+ years, the Hip's musical legacy can be divided into 2 separate era's. The first era (A) would cover the EP through to TATH. The second era (B) would include Phantom Power through to WATS.

My question to you is:

Which Hip era do you feel the strongest connection? This could mean the group of albums that have provided you with the most musical enjoyment or perhaps have some other meaningful significance.

For some this may be a very easy question. Others may have a more difficult time distinguishing between the 2 eras. For those unsure ( and even those just curious ), try answering the following questions to help determine your answer. A high percentage of A or B answers might shed some light on your preference. Feel free to share your answers.

When I first read this I thought it would no doubt be Phantom Power onwards, but I found myself answering A for about 75% of the questions.

I didn't seem to have trouble answering any of them as "a". Some "b" answers would be pretty nice though. Esp escape for the emotion, and the newer songs on acoustic.

I couldn't decide, so I tried your quiz but I was evenly split down the middle!

When I think about it, my favourite 'era' actually crosses the border you set up after TatH.

Great quiz!

All four should have been on Yer Favourties.

B. Escape Is At Hand

These are the only two songs EVER to actually properly choke me up/put tears in my eyes at a gig.

Those two for me too. As well seeing Neil Young play Cortez the Killer at the ACC last year got to me. The man survived a brain aneurysm a few years back, and he rocked that night harder than I ever expected. I'm not a religious man at all, but him coming out of that alive was a miracle.

Early era for sure. I was ver disappointed with Phantom Power and have not cared much for their music since. Poets is fingernails on a chalkboard...

Oh oh raymond, you could be in trouble with fellow basers here. Phantom Power was just recently ranked as the to album by the members of the Hipbase

I was in college in the early 90's and loved the Hip. Listened to them all the time. For some reason, college days music will always sound good due to the memories associated with it. PP was the first post college release so I think it would have failed for me no matter what they did.

That said, I have grown to appreciate some latter day Hip stuff. But I love the earlier releases. Biased opinion I know...
