From the Hip Museum...

Quote: Phantom Power session outtake: "In the darkest deep/Germany/Looked like the Vegas Strip". Also includes a line shared with Save the Planet ("Murmurs in the mist") to rhyme with the '97 ARA slogan: "Let the enemy not exist". Some of the lyrics ended up as the basis for the poem of the same name in Coke Machine Glow, and some of the music was reworked into "The Dark Canuck".

This tune is one of my favourite unreleased Hip songs. If you haven't heard it, you must! (Try and listen through the muddy tape hiss, which isn't that bad)

Dana posted it as one of his downloads of the week right here:

I know some may have heard this song before, but I just wanted to re-iterate its cornucopia of awesomeness.
Anybody know anything else about this song?
Vegas Strip was on a pre-release cassettte tape of Phantom Power someone had given to me.
I traded it to someone from North Buffalo a long time ago for other Hip stuff. I was supposed to get a CD of it, but he had a fire or something.
Vegas. The Tragically Hip. Is this real life? I apologise if I'm derailing your thread, but when I saw it I wasn't expecting to hear a song I hadn't heard before, and I'm just sooo wound up tonight packing for the MFHip in MFVegas! :jump I've been living on a rock in SE Alaska since I last saw them... in 1992! *sigh* Seriously, I'm beside myself over here and I really, really like the song. Smile
Wow! I just went back to that download page and listened to a different version of "So Hard Done By". I love it.

*Deleted drunken gibberish...

That's pure gold ... never heard it. Thanks!
Now this would make an awesome Song of the Day :thumb:
Any song that mentions Nebakanezer is a winner in my book...

I don;t hear any DC in that song however?
