Okay. So we all know that for years, the guys have been recording their shows through the soundboard mixer. So my question is this: why is it that we have seen so precious few of these incendiary performances made available for purchase? Now I realize that there is a huge bootleg market (I myself have a large collection of these), but I think we can all agree that bootleg recordings, however decent, don't match a soundboard recording. Given that pretty much everyone who's ever seen a live show would most likely be interested in getting multiple shows, why hasn't the band gone the pearl jam route(releasing a whole tour on cd), the black crowes route (releasing TONS of live shows spanning numerous tours), or any other band that has loads of live releases… I realize there ARE a few… but with a band as consistently fantastic, there can't be enough...also, in light of the current tour, am I the only one who's thinking an acoustic album would kick serious buttock?

According to MAv (the Hip's webmaster), the band will be releasing more soundboard shows from the "Live From the Vault" series sometime soon. I'm hoping they release two or three at the same time like they did when the series first launched, as most fans here will no doubt purchase every single one of them. Myself included.
Fan recordings are not bootlegs. Bootlegs are illegally obtained and distibuted. The Hip allow fans to record their shows.

And a soundboard recording is not always better than an audience recording... It needs to be properly mixed in order to be listenable as the feed from the soundboard is mixed on the fly for the sound in the room.
Is that grooveless? whatever happened to that dude? why is this imposter here? are you the really the messiah?
Thanks for the info, direwolf… hopefully the shows will be culled from the most recent tour… I too will be scooping up whatevers made available... Yar, Chris, I realize the band allows fans to tape away… I'm using bootleg as a generic term to describe an unofficial release...No offense, man. And as to the sound quality issues, I am decidedly ignorant of the process. That being said, I have a large collection of both " fan recordings" and official releases described as soundboard recordings, and without fail the "soundboards" have better sound... Is this due to the mixing process or the tech used to encode the audio? And to the darkest Canuck: no, I am not the messiah, but I do read too much and live in a cheap $&@!?$& apartment.....
