"Pearl Jam, Billy Talent and Metric top the bill of Calgary's Virgin Festival lineup, it was unveiled today at a press conference.
The festival will take place Aug. 8 and 9 at Canada Olympic Park. The bill also includes The Cliks, Tokyo Police Club, The Arkells, Thunderheist, White Lies, Mother Mother, Shout Out Out Out Out.
It's a change of venue for the festival, which last year brought Stone Temple Pilots, the Flaming Lips and Tragically Hip to Fort Calgary. Noise complaints from neighbours were lodged with City Hall after last year's festival."
Not sure about the rest of the bands, but PJ coming to Calgary sure boosts a crap summer of live music....
Does any one know or have experience with if the VIP weekend pass is worth it? 300 bones to get you past lines/into the lounge etc.
I'm really only going to see Pearl Jam - just want to know if these passes work as I have not been to a Virgin fest before
I almost burst into spontaneous tears of joy when I read the announcement this morning.
FYI, I was at last year's Virgin Festival in Calgary, which was at a much more hospitable venue (Fort Calgary) and which was much, much more relaxed than I was anticipating. It was one of the more staid Hip crowds I've been a part of, which I was not expecting; I had no trouble getting down front, not even with a broken foot/a cast on my leg, and apart from a bit of shoving during "Poets" was essentially unmolested. It's a very, very corporate event, which is why I'm surprised Pearl Jam's doing it...but whatever: at this point I do not care.
Pearl Jam August 8 and 21, TTH September 19/21/23/October 2, Hold Steady September 22...oh yeah.
Holy crap! I'm there.

Personally I'm only interested in the Aug. 8th show. I'm really not a fan of any of the bands on the Sunday bill, and the folks at Virgin would have to pay ME to watch Billy Talent. I can't stand those guys.
Single day tickets are now on sale! This morning I picked up 2 tix for the Saturday show. They're advertised as $83, but each ticket ended up costing $94.25 with all the extra fees they slap on. God I hate Ticketbastard.
Regardless, this show is gonna be amazing. I can't wait!

Got some Saturday only tickets today, were closer to $90, but it's Pearl Jam, outside, in August! Gonna be a kick ass show, gonna have to track down SherpaHigh for a Calgary Hipbase/Pearl Jam reunion-

Wintersleep's in...and judging from this, I'd say we're getting an awfully long Pearl Jam set!

That's the best news I've heard all day. Sound curfew is generally between 10:30 and 11 PM for outdoor shows, so it looks like we're in for a long set indeed. Here are the official set times from the Virgin site:

Saw the stage setup on the morning show today, looks like a nice bowl setup. Nice to see Wintersleep added as well, I've never seen them.
Can't wait for the show tomorrow night. 8)
