AND mentioned that I am not Canadian. (or American either for that matter but still.........) You don't have to be Canadian to 'get' the Hip. You just have to have impeccable taste.
are you for real?
did you use enough exclamation marks in your "fill in"
who cares if people don't like them?
and if you listen to them "all the time" then you are missing out on a lot of great music.
If yer gonna slug me at least don't misquote me, Mark.
With all the bickering going back and fourth did anyone notice this one comment?
I can not tell if this is meant as a serious comment or not but if it is shameful!!
Mark C. Austin says:
See what no one knows is that the Hip are technically from Alaska, thus duping the lovely folks Canadia. This is clearly a travis-sham-mockery in my eyes. We should sue.

(ps. Thanks for the credit on my pic. You are my hero, Mr. Kornelis. MY HERO!)

Hmmm, I think I will just be a viewer of the site and not someone who will choose to post comments.
useless anger alienating one of our own. why?
I for one, Travelin' Man, enjoyed your idea of sharing thoughts of our favored band with a man who has asked it to be explained, and with success, the posts on the site has jumped, obviously from people of this board.
Let's stop the reasonless hate please.

i did misquote you.. my bad. but the rest stand.
if someone doesn't like them, then leave it alone. who cares? why does everyone feel the need to defend this band?
Because it is like any passion someone has you get pissed when someone tries to bring them down so you defend them. Like your favourite hockey team for example...have you never defended something you love before and why do you care if someone does :nooooo
Am I the only one now finding this thread amusingly ironic??
There's some pretty strong negative opinions about me having...... wait for it.......

Just being a fan of a band that I, my opinion only, consider the ultimate quintessential Canadian band !!
Uh...am I the first to say..."WELCOME?!"
Idunno man, I'd never try to "explain" the Hip to an American. The way I see it, either a person likes real music or they don't. From what I can tell from that Seattle article, the douche just likes to crap over bands for silly things like "they're Canadian."
I can't say for certain but it seems like the bands that come out of America don't have that stellar live show. They just get up, do their schtick and leave the stage. A band born to play live, with real live skills, a frontman who isn't anchored to his mic with a guitar, a band with charisma, improv skills, and swaths of diehard fans....miiiight...miight seem a little strange and foreign.
