Since there are no published rules on the manners, mores and morals of attending a Hip GA show in a relatively small venue I thought it may be interesting to open a discussion on how Basers feel about this. My own behaviour has changed at these types of shows over the past 15 years so I know this topic is very much a moving target. A couple of thoughts to get the ball rolling:
* When lining up outside the venue should you let your late arriving buddies join you in your primo line-up spot?
* Once inside should you let people moving up to get closer to the stage get right in front of you (particularly the 6'5" intoxicated "fans" that basically blind your stage sight lines?
*If you get in late do you rush\push your way up to the stage despite people objecting to this behaviour?
*If you leave for a bathroom or beer brake do you expect\assume you are going to get your spot back?

1 or 2: YES more than that no

NO

NO

YES: the people I am with are still in that space, you need to do it seperatly
All those questions should be a No or Not a Chance in Hell; however if somebody decides to be a meathead (not saying you are) then it all depends on whether people want to get belligerent about things. I've been to a couple GA shows at HOB Chicago where some unknown meathead decided that he deserved his spot up front simply because he saw some buddies there and when myself and several people around me objected, he threatened to punch me in the face. At that point, its not worth getting punched in the face.

UGH my PET hate!! I am 5'4" so I ALWAYS get the giant dude in front of me!!

I like to be around lots of this at GA shows too as long as it doesn't get too out of hand ----> :jump
Its general admission. Not letting someone in front of you? I hate when people claim a “spot” that could fit 4 people in it. Im not getting stuck in the back because someone wants their own large personal space. Should you squeeze into a spot that isnt big enough for you? no. I think we need to be aware of other people’s needs when finding a spot.
Im 6'2" and Im very aware of who is behind me. But at the same time if there is space should I not take it because Im tall? Ive noticed that Hip shows are full of tall people.
At the Philly show for the last song (Little Bones) I tried to move up and be with a group of people jumping and having fun. No issues just jumping. People got mad at me for trying to move up. They gave me the elbows to claim their space. I wasn’t pushing people aside, I was sliding between people to get to an open spot.
If you are up front, and you just stand there absorbing more space than you need do you deserve that spot just because you waiting outside of hours?
I agree there should be some general etiquette, more of awareness than anything esle. But it is general admission. What are you going to do?

I was at that show, got in early and was upfront the whole show, NO ONE was taking up "more space than you need" ....it was packed. Why should people let
you in front of them just because
you feel you are entitled to now go upfront and :jump ?
i think its more the drunks than anything pushing and shoving and being dumb... @ cleveland it sucked to the left of stage because there had to be 15 big guys there just standing not singing not jumping not smiling not being excited at all... standing there like cattle... obviously they wanted to see the show but the lack of energy man was depressing... i felt odd being excited and having fun... hopefully tonight 2nd row artpark will be better

I don't get it.
Help me out here -- why does it "suck", and why is it "depressing" to you that others can enjoy the show as they stand there calmly, silently, and expressionless?
There are folks out there who get "exicted" and "have fun" without bouncing around and screaming like hyperactive banshees.

Here's a general guideline: shut the fuck up. If you want to have a conversation with your friend/girlfriend for the entire show (with the exception of singles), stay the fuck home. I'm here to listen to music, not you.

The incessant chatter that so many seem to partake in at every show drives me fuckin' nuts.
