It's like reading Wing Dings
daysleeperchuk Wrote:http://hipbase.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f...283#p20845 here's half the reason why right here- daysleeperchuk, the other half is that corporate radio in North America is a fuct situation--- 100's of bands available only a handful get played---35 or so genres of music only 8 kinds of radio station,, most artists they do play have over 10 albums worth of material to chose from but we only get to hear their established hits,,,name any artist from the 70's or 80's and it's the same story---james taylor--jimi hendrix--van morrison---aretha franklin---elvis---james brown--jimmy buffet---micheal jackson---the police---bob dylan--and on and on and on --jimmy buffet alone has like 25 albums, you get to hear 3 songs tops--margaritavile,fins, cheeseburger in paradise---van morrison---25 albums or more--countless live cuts available---you get to hear 3 songs tops---brown-eyed girl-moondance--caravan if you're lucky----some radio stations claim "we play everything!"----no you don't---the rolling stones---you might get to hear 10 or so various songs on a classic rock station-- but 10 out of 150? --why can't I like the stones and stan getz equally---depeche mode and otis redding----wilco and mos def----paul westerberg and miles davis----------The vast majority of people in America are in terms of musical taste,,,; illiterate- -IGNORE-ant- -and just plain stupid.,,, or too lazy to seek out new music, I know I talk to them everyday.

Yeesh, I've been to Islamic countries that were more forgiving and friendly to Americans.

Is Canadian radio really that different? Are there really tons of stations that will play Mos Def right after a Wilco song?
Do people still listen to the radio? I stopped in 1997 and I program an online 3 hour radio show every Monday from 2-5 on radiojohnson.net.

and it is Mos Eisley not Mos Def - sheesh some people....
After years and years of mulling this question....the answer is simple.

Gord went bald. If he had the mop he donned in '93, they would be huge in the states. :what
Who gives a rats ass about the Hip making it in the States...why is hockey on the outdoor channel in the states? because they don't fucking like it...thats why. They like monster trucks and Nascar...we don't need the Americans to like the Hip. In fact, if it weren't for Canadians working abroad in the States, the Hip likely wouldn't play there as much as they currently do.

First off, why do you feel the need to reply to a simple inquiry by asking "who gives a rats [sic] ass"? It is a legitimate question that doesn't have a simple answer. Furthermore, do you know many Americans? I have to wonder. Being an American, with American friends and American relatives, I can quite honestly say I can't name one who likes either Nascar or monster trucks. That's too broad a brush, my friend. I'm also an American hip fan, I know a smattering of others, either by pure coincidence or through this board. We're a loyal group, no need to insult.

Canadians are such pricks 8)
The Hip never made it big in the states for the same reason The Tea Party didnt.

Yankees just dont really get it. They are to into Hip Hop, Dance , Rap and Country , Rock and Roll is almost dead in the U.S. of A. I mean look at the last top 40 charts. I dont even have a clue how they manage to rock and roll down there.

But thats all cool. I dont care that they are not big down there, it probably would have ruined them. They would have gotten way rich and some fat cat lawyer would have convinced Rob to go solo and Johnny to join Dave Matthews and Gord to get into movies. We all would be sitting here wishing for the good old days of new Hip songs for our parties.

But here we are rockin out to yet another great CD. Possible one of their top 3.
Yankees can have Rap, Country, Hip Hop, House Music, Dance Music and all those others crazy sounds. I will keep rocking out here and drink beer.

Didn't use to think so, until I came here.
Yeah, f.uck Canada. I'm still moving back, though.
Many Americans around the Great Lakes get it as we can see by this site. They just don't get played the further South you go in the U.S. Confusedhock:

I was being sarcastic after Jenna_bird's comments about broadsweeping generalizations about Americans.
Actually, I saw my first Hip concert in Orlando. Also, every single person that I've introduced to the Hip's music have loved it. Chalk up like 5 more American Hip fans cause of me. Also, this conversation is too trivial t be so heated...
