Was at the Grady show here in Moncton last night and was shocked to hear them cover Boots or Hearts. When Gordie Johnson mentioned that it was a Hip cover he was unhappy with the crowd response and said, "Tragically Hip? Ever heard of them? How about the Montreal Canadiens? You know, the hockey team?" Pretty sweet. Doesn't surprise me that he's a fan considering how often Big Sugar and the Hip must have crossed paths in the 90's CanRock craze.
He called the cover the deGRADYied version and said when the Hip heard it they would want to do that version too

Didn't someone say he was at the Empire Theatre show in Belleville back in 2006?? I didn't see him myself, but I am pretty sure someone said he was there.

I had high hopes when I first heard about this......kind of disappointed with it.

while it doesn`t hold a candle compared to the original, i think its pretty cool

I'm very open minded when it comes to music. I used to be a big Big Sugar fan when Gordie was playing Ultrasound and Clinton's but personally I think this bites. It isn't that it is bad, it is just so in your face, stripped of sentiment and void of any of the charm of the original. It is a Big Mac version.
Any Calgary fans here may be interested in a free guitar clinic put on by Gordie down at Long and Mcquade from 5 to 6 on Oct 17 - before the evening show with Grady....maybe he'll play Boots.

I agree. There was so much potential to make a great, dirty, bluesy version of Boots, and I really thought Gordie Johnson was the perfect guy to pull it off.............but to me it completely missed.
Guess I will have for with for Neil to remake it now. Cue distortion..... :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Not sure I like the studio recording all that much but I'm thinking this cover will sound great live.
Its great that Gordie Johnson is stepping up and acknowledging that the Hip are a great band. He only would cover a song that is really worth it. Saw him play at harvest Jazz and Blues in Freddy couple of years ago with the big sugar harmonica player and SRV's original drummer, great show, sooo much talent. :thumb:
