Match-up #32 - Blow at High Dough Vs. Fully Completely
Listen to the two songs in the match-up Back to Back, and consider the lyrics of the song. Feel free to post an unbiased analysis of both songs in this thread, but please refrain from cheerleading or making predictions for your favourites.

*This is the last matchup in the first round. Tomorrow starts round 2! Things are heating up around here. Enjoy the passion.
Which one's the right one?
We must have been in the process of posting this match-up at the same time. I deleted the other one, the voting results were the same as in this one at the time of deletion.
Fully is one of the few songs I always hope for when I see them live. The rising climax and subsequent let down at the end always leaves me blown away.
This one was very tough. Two of my favorites, two five-star songs (iTunes ratings), great hooks, great lyrics. Had to go with FC, but it was tough.
At lease THESE songs aren't mellow! Tongue
blow because its more unconventional than fully

What's with your aversion to mellow songs? I put forward that that songs such as "Sherpa" "Titanic Terrarium" " Last Of The Unplucked Gems" "Fiddlers" "Toronto #4" etc, are some of the Hips best tunes.

It's not an aversion at ALL. I love all of those songs, but place Fight against Fiddlers and to me it's no contest, but Fight got blown away! That's just one example. When taking it all into consideration, it has to be about the music, the energy, the emotion, the lyrics, live versus studio, mood, etc. So my issue is about my own expectations. There are just too many instances where the way *I* thought that Hip fans would vote to go a certain way and they're not voting that way. It happens to be mostly with the more mellow tunes...that's all. So...since this is the perfect forum to vent, I do!

I really do have to break out the vaporizer - where's my grinder?!?!
I had a friend and Hip fan ask me a while ago to recommend some Hip songs that he could give to a friend of his to introduce her to the Hip. I ended up giving him 2 lists...the first was my list, the 2nd was a list that most casual Hip fans would likely pick. Mine included songs like Vapour Trails, The Bear, Eldorodo, Don't Wake Daddy, etc, and the other had obvious favorites like Blow, NOIS, Little Bones, etc.

I think on the Hipbase you will likely find people who may be more inclined to lean towards the less popular songs simply because we hear them often where as the casual fan probably doesn't. Many of us have also been to multiple Hip shows and as a result we often wish for the lesser known songs to be played since we have heard the popular ones many times over.

Not always true.
I'd say Locked In The Trunk Of A Car is one of my all time favourites, and the only time I could see voting against it is...
well.
You know.
I f'd up...

I voted for BAHD instead of FC on this post. The other post had my correct vote. I PM'd a moderator, but if it can't be changed it's no biggie.

Sorry.

I hear ya...Poets is one of my favorites and it's safe to say that is also a casual Hip fan favorite as well.

Not true. Look at the two champions - Nautical Disaster and Grace, Too. Besides maybe NOIS and Little Bones I'd say those are their two most popular main-stream songs.

That's me who said that and it is true, although I'm not being black and white about it. All I'm saying is that it is no surprise to find Hipbasers are fond of lesser or unknown Hip songs. That's all. I'm not saying Hipbasers don't also like the really popular songs as well.
