3 of us did them, and we were talking a lot during the show, and every now and then, we would look up and say, oh yeah, the hip are playing!

Maybe I'm alone here, but to me, this doesn't sound like fun at all. I've never really understood the appeal of getting wasted and then going to a concert.

I agree, you can get wasted on your own time and not have to spend 60 or 70 dollars to do it, and you miss out on the reason (presumably) you went to the concert in the first place, to watch the band.

Also, and this is different than getting really stoned, but most people who get hammered at shows end up ruining it for everyone around them. I remember seeing a guy in his 40's in floor seats at Copps Coliseum bang into a 10 year old kid and knock him over cause he was so hammered he was falling all over the place. There's no need for anything like that, the kid's dad made sure something was done about that douche bag. If you're a mellow drunk its fine, or still know how to respect people's space, but when you run around knocking people over you need to get kicked out.

I'm with you Matty. I was at a show last Thursday and the jack ass next to me was so drunk he didn't know that the show was happening. A complete waste.

And he was a real distraction from the show.

I'm with ya, I go just for the music. Every concert I've attended, save one or two, I've been sober. I can see the appeal of the other side though, just depends on your personality. I can also see how people who are so out of it that they can barely stand could ruin the show for the people around them.

I have nothing against a beer or two before/during a show. When you're at the point when you're distracting and annoying everyone around you you shouldn't be anywhere, especially a concert. The Ottawa show we had two girls (clearly drunk and/or high) in the aisle. They only lasted about 3 or 4 songs before the ushers gave them the boot but it was a really annoying way to start a concert. The entire section cheered when they left.
I have a hard rule against getting high or drunk at concerts. I just don't. Drinking is a huge no go since I don't want to be running to the bathroom every 20 minutes, and smoking is also not something I do during shows because I like to be THERE and not in an alternate headspace.

Besides I don't enjoy being around dumb drunks at concerts, I had 3rd row floors right in the middle aisle for the That Night in Toronto show a few years ago and this dumb drunk behind me passed out forward and fell into my ex-girlfriend. I had to hold the jerk up by the back of his shirt while she got out of the way. He got a face full of chair when I let him go. It's just common respect to not be a douchebag at concerts. That was the first hip show I've been to where someone on the floor wasn't entirely respectful to us. At one show at the Ampitheatre these dudes let my girlfriend get in front of them so she could be up against the railing to get a better view.
My brother in law spent most of the Detroit show on the IBE tour throwing up ... seems a sound reason not to drink.

I mean, I like to drink as much as the next guy ... but I haven't been drunk at a show in a long time ... actually, ever.

And I still have no idea what happens in Eraserhead. Damn LSD....

At the Kingston K-rock show an idiot 20 something year old girl ended up throwing up on my 11 year old daughters jacket and seat. Quite the role model I tell you. Definitely took away from my daughters first concert experience.
If you're gonna spark a J on the floor of a show, my only rule is that you must share with the people you're blowing smoke on anyway. Last Hip show I was at I was surrounded by smokers, and pretty sure I got a contact buzz, but no one ever offered me or my buddies a toke even.
Different game these days....going back to the mid 70's you could not see the other side of the venue due to the "smoke". Times have a change. Spread the love man.... Big Grin

haha, I can recall the lights going on at the end of a few Hip concerts and seeing a giant cloud hovering over the rink.
The first rule of fight club is you don't talk about fight club.

That being said....drunks suck! I hate alcoholics and the only thing worse than an alcoholics is a alcoholic at a concert. Have a drink or two but keep your act together. That is why God made weed. Smoke up, pass it to your neighbor and share the love!!

Oh man, now I've gone and gotten all stoked for my next Hip show.... :jump
