In the VHS heksenketel, Gord improvises about fingers starting to wiggle and landscapes emerge. This lyric shows up on the next album in Emergency.

On "That night in Toronto" Gord uses the Freddie Mercury line, and that later shows up on the World Container album.

Are these genuine improvs that he goes back and likes and works into songs? Or do you think they are songs in progress that he has on his mind so he is using them in concert?

I would put all my money down on songs in progress, or songs that didn't make the cut and Gord salvages the lyrics he likes.

there are a ton of these "improvs" that Gord drops during songs and rants, in my opinion, for the most part these are not 100% improvised but are more likely poems, lyrics, etc., that he is working on. I think the more complex or lyrical the improv sounds the more likely that it is from something he is actually working on as opposed to an actual improv or rant like "microphone stand". In some cases, it’s clearly planned in advance such as Freaked as performed in Toronto on February 10, 1995. Freaked was clearly a song they were working on that never made the cut. Who knows, all I do know for sure is that the band and Gord in particular, use the live shows as part of their creative process.

Oh... now I'm holding my breath for the microphone and microphone stand song!!! That would make for a great video!

Maybe Coffee Girl is about a microphone and microphone stand that thinks it's a man then turns back into a woman again..... who likes coffee..........
