I think Scott Litt, who worked with R.E.M. in the late 80s and early 90s, would be a perfect match! I mean, they went to the Police's producer last time round, and you can't get much farther away thematically from the Hip! I'd love to see what they could do with Scott...

By the way, I never heard it was the label's decision to pair Dave with Ballard. I mean, he'd made the label millions with his dark, brooding rock. Why would they tell him that more of it wasn't marketable? In interviews, he's said he personally wanted to get away from the music he'd written while drinking, and he made contact with Ballard of his own accord. How he got to California is really irrelevent, but the results are indisputably bad. (I say indisputably...hope there isn't anyone who loved that album, but what are the odds of that?

Again, like I said I didn't want to start a whole big thing that is off hip topic, but Lillywhite said in an interview that the label scrapped the album. And do you really see the band scrapping the album after they were touring the material for months? It smells too much like label interference and I just can't see Dave scrapping those songs of his own accord. The one thing that has been made abundantly clear from all of it is that they need to stay out of Dave's business and let him release anything he wants....maybe like a solo album for him and one for Boyd?

Yeah, I should quit too...I need to spend less time here anyway. I find myself starting back-and-forth posting "conversations" with people and coming back every couple of hours to see what the other person said...

You know, what you said sounds logical. I mean, the whole would-they-scrap-stuff-after-touring-it. But I never had heard the Lillywhite interview. to hear Dave tell it, he had a bit of an epiphany and decided that music really wasn't something he wanted to put out there. No way to know for sure, though. I was shocked that Dave would write all those songs without the rest of the band.

By the way, Stickboy...have you heard either Dave's or Boyd's solo albums? I heard Boyd's was pretty boring/awful...and I swear this'll be the last DMB-related post I'll make in this thread. I know it's a long way off the intended topic!
