Hey all,
I'm in the market for a new digital camera, we've used the same 35 mm camera forever and now i want a digital, I'm wondering is the rechargeable or disposable battery powered better? i heard they can go thru disposables fast. how many megapixels minimum will give the best shots, what features should i look for. I know very little about them. I'm looking to not spend a whole lot maybe 150 max. thanx for any help you can offer.
I assume you're after a point-and-shoot camera? For that price, you could probably pick up something from the
Canon Powershot range. I had a PowerShot A510 (well, I technically still have it) and it served me well for two years - this included being dropped numerous times and being brought "back from the dead" once. I think they've stripped the newer versions down a bit, but mine had a multiude of manual and auto functions which I really liked.
8MP is pretty impressive for the price as well (considering my DSLR is 10.1MP). They're a little bulky compared to the IXUS range, for example, but you could still happily fit it in your pocket and walk around with it. They run off AA batteries, but you can pick up rechargable AA's which'll be a lot cheaper in the long run, and should give you longer battery life.
I'd advise heading into town and trying a few out, as you'll get a feel for the sizes and how intuitively they work for you. I hope that helps.

More megapixels doesn't mean better pictures. It means bigger file sizes, which means fewer images per memory card, which means more memory cards.... More than 6 megapixels is a waste for most people buying a point and shoot camera.

I like Nikons. Zenith and Trevor are Canon guys. You can't really go wrong with either. If you have a retailer nearby go in and check out a bunch - find the one that fits your hand, and your budget.
I'll never buy a camera that doesn't have a lithium ion rechargeable battery.
thanx Guys, great info :thumb:
