Are there any fans of this amazing band here? I've only really gotten into them this year, but I truely love them. 'A Weekend In The City' is such a superb album - excellent narrative and imagary in the lyrics, set to some fantastic rock/electronica music.

I've just noticed on their site that they're in Canada at the moment (which inspired this post here). Check 'em out: http://www.blocparty.com/

(Chris and Markslog: If you're reading this - I'm sadly having to bow out of Sam Roberts to see these guys on the same night. Sorry. Sad)
Oh well...

I've tried but can't seem to get into them. I saw their highlights from V-Fest a couple of years ago and liked the sound, but perhaps it was the atmosphere that made it so appealing?

Maybe it's worth another try.
I can see how they're not to everyone's tastes. They do seem to push their sound (perhaps a touch too much on their latest album), but I think that's part of the makings of a great band. I really rock music that brings in other elements (like strings or electronica etc). It sounds a bit pretenous, but I can really relate to a lot of their songs (especially on Weekend... which has a lot references to places and things London).
The new album is definitely quite a curve ball in a different direction as 'A Weekend in the City'.
I have been a fan since 'Silent Alarms' was released but this has discouraged me from the bad a little.

They do have a double set though coming up at The Marquee in Halifax this coming Sunday and Monday I do believe.
Listening to "Mercury" as we speak...and saw them in Calgary on Wednesday, absolutely brilliant gig, can't wait to hear Intimacy in its entirety. I still think Silent Alarm is streets ahead of A Weekend in the City, but I'm really digging what I've been hearing from the new album thus far. "Ares," which opened in the encore in Calgary, is a stunning tune. Check it out...seriously.
I'm seeing these dawgs here in Fredericton tonight!
EPIC.
Cool! Can't wait to see them! I'm worried though that my Mini-disc is playing up! It kept cutting out while I was trying to tape Nada Surf last night! Sad
