Some Brits claimed this on a message board I frequent from time to time. I think it's a preposterous claim. I think that Oasis are a derivative and bland band. Does anyone hold Noel is such high esteem as the Brits?

cratch:
Even with holding Oasis high as one of the greatest bands to come out of the UK this generation, I'm not sure if I'd throw the greatest songwriter tag Noel's way. However, there has to be something said about the guy who penned Wonderwall. The remarkable thing about that song is that the Oasis version is no longer the definitive one. It's all about Ryan Adams version from Love Is Hell, or his solo acoustic shows.
Cheers,
Pat
Well obviously this is my own personal opinion, but I know I wouldn't be making sandwiches for the search party if they were kidnapped, tied and gagged, then dumped in a forest full of bears and wolves...

Probably not. I gotta give them this much, though-- they are the most popular Beatles cover band of all time. :rambo:
On a similar note,
anybody see what happened to Oasis during their headlining act at V-Fest the other night?

Man charged after assault on Oasis' Gallagher bros
A 47-year-old man has been charged with assault after Oasis' Gallagher brothers were "cold-cocked" in front of 25,000 fans Sunday night on stage at the Virgin Festival on the Toronto Island. Daniel Sullivan, 47, has been charged with assault. He appeared in court at Old City Hall at 10 a.m. today.
Toronto police say the man either leapt from the crowd or the wings of the stage during the final performance by British rock band Oasis. The man pushed Noel Gallagher while he and his brother, lead singer Liam Gallagher, were midway through singing Oasis hit "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" before he was seized by security. "The audience seemed shocked at first, the fan came out of nowhere," said concert-goer Ryan Markle. "There was a lot of gasping and yelling."
The band dropped its instruments and left the stage almost immediately, prompting the lights to go on and leaving many of the 25,000 fans disgruntled. After a five minute hiatus, Noel Gallagher emerged to lead the group through another song before Liam Gallagher emerged silently to sing their popular hit "Wonderwall." The concert concluded abruptly at 10:30 p.m. with a cover of the Beatles' "I Am the Walrus."
Oasis, which has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, easily outdrew Saturday headliners the Foo Fighters on Sunday at Olympic Island for Virgin Festival.

Yeah I agree, that's just not right.

Could be that they're the better band. Or it could be that they're more popular. Nobody could say for sure. But my guess would be that it's because they're a much, much better band. Just a theory.

I think there's just more hype around Oasis. The Foo Fighters (IMO the better band) puts on one of the best shows you can see right now. Just incredible performances, audience interaction, songs, grit, etc.
oasis? They have no interaction with the audience whatsoever.

Well, other than being attacked on stage...
No, I love the Foo. I just had to attempt to counteract all of this random Oasis hate!
