Here's an article that appeared on Canoe this morning. Seems like Gord may be appearing on a waterkeepers cd compilation.

Besides the Waterkeepers disk, it sounds like a full album with Gord is in the works also:
Dallas Wrote:But considering the album that we're working on with Gord is going to be original and with an equal amount of input, we don't want to sell anything short there.
A full album with Gord and the Sadies would be amazing. That tribute album to The Band sounds pretty cool too.
This news is almost as cool as the authors name: "FISH GRIWKOWSKY"
Awesome news. And yeah, Fish is one of the few Edmonton music-related journalists I don't want to stab in the neck.
He did a hilarious interview with some Godsmack guy a few years ago. Let me see...
I was pretty adrenalized to talk to Godsmack until I found out where the band's name came from. It's stolen from an Alice in Chains song, which I'm sure most of you metal meatheads knew. Guess I was reading about leprechaun hygiene or something the day everyone learned that crucial tidbit. Anyways, the idea of "smacking God" seemed like a good one, and I had a whole bunch of theological questions to put to whichever random member of the band called me up. Like, for example, "If you could smack God, why (and where)?" or "Would you also smack any god, such as Ra, Thor, or Hercules?" Because I would sure smack Hercules, wouldn't you?
Anyway, when 38-year-old guitarist Tony Rambola finally called from Detroit to hype his concert, he would have none of that, so enjoy.
Fish: I've always been drawn to your band's name. The idea of smacking a god is captivating. Which god were you guys thinking of?
Tony: You know it was an Alice in Chains song we borrowed the name from, so we didn't really think about it in those terms.
Fish: You never thought about your band's name?
Tony: We just really liked the song.
Fish: Did you ever play Dungeons and Dragons as a kid?
Tony: No, I played sports and rode dirt bikes and discovered that I could play the guitar when I was 13. I basically put the sports away.
Fish: Thrashing in front of thousands of pimply kids is pretty good exercise. You probably don't need sports anymore.
Tony: I golf, if you want to call that a sport. I just started three years ago. I'm at a 13 handicap.
Fish: What are the rockin-est metal golf courses you've played on?
Tony: I don't even remember most golf courses. I've played some great places down in Florida and Hawaii.
Fish: They've got some beauts down around Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.
Tony: We got invited to play Sammy Hagar's bar down there, but then 9/11 happened, so we stayed home.
Fish: It's kind of a shithole; lots of fat guys in tank tops posing beside guitars on the walls. So, you believe in God and angels and all that?
Tony: I believe in God. I dunno about angels.
Fish: Speaking of angels, I love that you have porno-lite videogames on the Web, especially Strip Smackjack. I played it for a while and won, but there were censor bars on the cartoon lady. What gives?
Tony: Ha ha. I don't really get involved with that stuff.
Fish: But your band's been censored in Wal-Mart and stuff like that. And I know there are sanitized versions of your albums. Your take on censorship?
Tony: Well, they should be labeled so a parent can be aware of what their kids are buying. There should be a language warning.
Fish: You must have kids.
Tony: Yup, two.
Fish: You were on the Scorpion King soundtrack. Did you like it?
Tony: I never saw it.
Fish: You NEVER saw it? But wouldn't you want to know in what context your song was played? I mean, what if it was some scene where some guy's jacking off a dog?
Tony: Did that happen?
Fish: Well, no. But the Rock beat lots of guys up and made out with Kelly Hu. I can't believe you never saw it. It's, like, the best worst movie ever made...
Tony: OK.
hahahaha, that interview was hilarious.
i like fish`s style too. if we were to compare journalists, fish would be like the tragically hip and mike ross would be the earl stevenson. i`m sure he is one of the guys daylight would like to stab in the neck.
The Toronto quartet have also divulged that a full-blown collaboration is underway between the Sadies and Hip front-man Gordon Downie (who's also rumoured to have a new solo record in the can with his all-star Country of Miracles band).

Gord Downie Sheds Light on Collaborative Album with the Sadies
8/10/2010 By Vish Khanna
With the Tragically Hip on hiatus, lead vocalist and lyricist Gord Downie is spending his time touring with his solo project, the Country of Miracles, and their excellent new record, The Grand Bounce. While the album is only the band's third since they first convened in 2001, it has been Downie's primary outlet for musical expression outside of the Hip. Now comes news about the long-rumoured collaboration between Downie and super-prolific Toronto band and 2010 Polaris Music Prize nominees, the Sadies.
In a recent interview with Exclaim!, Downie suggests the project is far along. "It's going catch-as-catch-can, which I bet you will be the album title," Downie says. "They've got a busy schedule and I've got a busy schedule, so we've been chipping away at it. We were together about a month ago and added a couple of songs. We still have some work to do but it's getting closer. And then who knows what happens with it after that."
He adds of the Sadies, "I enjoy getting together with those guys; it's a whole other universe. They're writing all the music and I'm writing all the lyrics and we're coming up with some neat stuff. You do it for the company but I'm genuinely shocked by the themes and things you touch on based on the music you're singing to. That's really compelling to me."
Downie says that the plan was to shoot for ten new songs and that they're currently sitting at "about eight and a half." He doesn't expect to reconnect with the Sadies until at least the end of the summer. "We're in no rush, and I think that's healthy," he says.
As for the Hip, Downie says there are no current plans for the band to work together in the near future but expects to do so when the mood strikes. "Everyone wants to cool their jets for a while. It'll just be the songs; when we get a bunch of songs together that say, 'We should be a record,' that's what we'll do, perhaps upending the idea that every two years, you just convene and make a record. Perhaps this time, the songs will come first."
This will surely be the greatest album of all time once completed.

Agreed.

Anybody have any news on this album? I'm dying to hear this thing. My guess is that it's probably in the can, and they're just waiting for the right time to release it.

Aaaaahhh I forgot all about this. I was talking with Dallas a few weeks ago after a show in Kingston and it would have been a perfect opportunity to ask him about it. One of the nicest guys in the music biz I've ever met.
This thread reminded me of the great Sadies/Gord live recording on CBC Fuse. You can download it here:

Login and it's in the Gord Downie section.
Anybody have any news on the now mythical Sadies/Downie collaboration? On the Sadies' Facebook page they mention that they have a new record coming out this fall (the official follow-up to "Darker Circles"), but there's no mention of Gord at all. I wonder if they all just gave up and decided not to release it. I remember reading an interview with Gord way back when he was promoting The Grand Bounce in 2010, and he mentioned they had recorded 8 or 9 songs together, and that the album was almost finished. Weird that this project seems to have disappeared. It's too bad, because I'd really love to hear it.
