You know, as much as I liked WC, I think I'm going to like this one even better. The three clips in the video seem like part of very simple rock songs, a direction which started with WC and which now seems to be coming full circle. The first song especially... It sounds amazing! Still, as much as I'd love to see them go in the complete opposite direction (a much more abstract, experimental sound) I am still really digging this direction they're going in... Man this new album is gonna rock.
This is the news I have been waiting for to break my Hipbase Cone of Silence!
Unfortunately, I can't get the player on thehip.com website to work. Presumably there is some easy way to fix that that doesn't involve me rewriting lines of code somewhere? Any help?

This brings to mind the old B-sides album discussion. Wasn't the band toying with the idea of putting out a b-sides compilation a couple years ago? Are they still thinking of doing that in the future? One can only hope. They must have mountains of unreleased material locked up in the vaults. And that material needs to be set free! I remember back when Music@Work came out, I read an interview with Paul where he mentioned they had recorded close to 30 songs for that record, and ended up whittling it down to 14 for the finished album. Man, I'd step over my own mother to hear the other 15 songs that were left on the cutting room floor. Even if they didn't release that stuff on CD, they could still put it out as a download, or throw them up on iTunes like they did for the "Live 10" series.
OUtstanding! Thanks so much MAv! You really made my week -- can't wait for the next part.
Hmm, record done by the end of august...which means the single would be out by when? What's the turn around on something like that?
Fantastic video MAv - thanks. I LOVE the fact that Paul kicks ass at snooker and Gord S. kills things between sessions. :thumb:
Really puts into perspective how patient the guys need to be. Hope they rest well and spend time with their families before heading out to promote the new album! I hope they pay the Maritimes a nice and long trip!! haha, Great video MAv, nice to know we have contact with someone that actually has met the hip :thumb:
For a moment I did have a flash of terror though at the thought of a possible headline:
"Lead Singer for The Tragically Hip Killed in a Freak Accident Giving Interview on Mountain Bike"....
I'll just echo everyone else's thanks, and say it's pretty effing cool we get this for free while other sites for bands would charge membership for this kind of footage (*cough cough* U2 *cough cough* Metallica)

I did think the interview with Gord S, pausing while taking a shot, was quite "Spinal Tap" comical.......

Vey cool! Thanks MAv. Is this something that maybe would be a bonus dvd witht the cd release? I would buy that verion if they/you were thinking of it. just my 2 cents.
There was an article in the Ottawa Sun this morning talking about the recording of the new album. The boys seem to think that the album should be finalized by the end of August

Hip works on another Rock album
By JASON MACNEIL, SUN MEDIA
The Tragically Hip thought it went so nice they'd try it twice.
According to a video clip released yesterday on the band's website, the group is working on a new studio album with producer Bob Rock. Rock also produced 2006's World Container, the band's previous studio effort.
The band will continue working on the as-yet untitled album at Rock's home studio in Maui, following its appearance at the inaugural Pemberton Festival in B.C. on Saturday.
"I think after doing World Container we were pretty happy with the results, and it seemed like we just got to know each other as the album was ending," Rock says in the clip. "We kind of figured out what everybody did and stuff. Really it was done three or four songs at a time. We just knew that we had to kind of try to at least raise the bar a bit. We knew we had to come up with something different."
"It's going really well. Bob's been here three times since about April, we've worked out the songs and whittled them down," lead singer Gord Downie says. "We're at about 14 right now and I think that's what we'll continue with."
The band worked on the album at its Bathouse Studio near Kingston following touring in support of World Container last year. According to bassist Gord Sinclair, they hope to have the record completed by the end of August.
Hey MAv, any small little hints on the title of the new album that you can give us?

Juuuust kidding...but seriously.
Great Stuff!
Nothing kick starts the base like the sounds of a new album canning
Here is hoping for a new song (or two) at Pemberton
