Yes. Kathleen's live show is awesome. She rocks a little harder than on her albums, and her band is fantastic.
*grump* She needs to swing over to the midwest at a time, during which, I can actually attend. Does any know how long her current tour will run?

So Kathleen is playing a show at St. Paul's Trinity Church in Toronto on February 13th...any ideas/feedback as to why she is playing at this venue? Acoustic set? Anyone been there...,etc.

The show in Buffalo was mostly acoustic as the band consisted of Kathleen and Jim Bryson. 'Twas an excellent show, my guess is she is doing stripped down solo acoustic shows.
Jenna and I will have the distinct pleasure of catching Kathleen perform right here in Cincinnati on February 2. I think I can speak for the both of us and say we feel very lucky to have the opportunity to see her without leaving town. On a personal note I am excited to see her play a very familiar venue, in a neighborhood where I've lived, worked and played for a number of years.
Should be lots of fun, and I'm excited. I've really come to appreciate Asking For Flowers and Back to Me, and am just becoming familiar with Failer. She definitely has a firm grasp of the art of 'songsmithing', and has quite the knack for writing catchy melodies and hooks. And her voice is pure velvet.

Does anyone know how long the sets usually run? I have school the next day, and I think I'm going to have to put in for the morning off.

Generally her sets have been running about 2 hours total. I don't know if she has an opening act or not. If it is just Kathleen and Jim Bryson, you guys are in for a *bleeping* treat!
As much as I can enjoy acoustic sets, and as good as i'm sure her performance will be, I'm kinda bummed that she won't have a full band in tow.
I've never seen her, and "full band" is of more interst to me at this point than "stripped down ensemble" is. Part of what I like so much about her albums are the electric guitar stylings.
Does the 20th Century Theatre have multiple venues on site? When I saw her in Buffalo, she played in the basement (about 50 people max capacity) of an old church that had an upstairs hall w/ 1,000 ppl capacity. I always thought it a bit weird they staged her show in the basement with Buffalo being so close to the Canadian border. She does have an opening act for your show, Esthete, so maybe she'll have the full band in tow? Lots of luck and enjoy the show, buddy :thumb:
No, the 20th Century is just a single-space venue....one of those old theatres that has been remodeled and updated for multi-purpose use....music, plays, balls, galas, etc.
I'm sure it will be stellar regardless of acoustic set or full band.
The reason it matters at all to me is that part of her appeal -- for me, personally -- is that the guitarwork on her albums are a significant contributing element to her the general style, and that style is a big part of what I have come to appreciate about her.
It's possible that I just have used some of my own imagination to form this opinion, but I think that KE's three albums have a distinct relationship to Neil Young, and the style and physical sound of the guitarwork on those records is the reason for that assessment. That rough, unfettered, deliberate style with a heavy-bottomed, distorted electric, with lots of pedal steel mixed in....not only does it cause my ear to draw comparisons to Neil in particular, but it also is contributing to the gradual construction of a signature "northern plains" rock sound (if only in my head), which is a good thing and something that somehow deepens my admiration.
I want to hear all of that live before I take in a more intimate, softer acoustic set.
But I won't complain either way :thumb:

You were right on. Ignore what I said about wanting to see a full band. Those two don't need no stinkin band.
That's one strong act. It's just not very often you get to see such good songs performed so well in such an intimate, seemingly clandestine setting. There was probably 80-120? ppl at the venue; it was all table-seating so it
appeared to be 'full'...great response from the audience though. She did lots of chatting and joking...spent a couple minutes making Bryson feel awkward during the intro to 'You Get The Glory'...it was a fun show.
She actually waited in the lobby and greeted anyone who wanted to wait their turn, which we did. Good on her. :thumb:

That's good news. A few of us are going to her show in Ferndale, MI (suburb of Detroit) on Wednesday, February 4th. I'm looking forward to it.
