Quote:probly a tinge more than Ballroom for now but DAM i want to hear the whole of Josephine
Yeah so far Joe is my favorite of the two too. What about the rest of you guys.. which one do you prefer?

In response to Dyersbay's comments on if Gord D does all the penning(I still don't know how to use that quote thingy

cratch: ) I assume that they all write to one extent or another,Like Gord had to hone the craft of playin guitar, the other dudes must want to dabble(terrible way to put it) in the art of song writing, poetry etc etc etc. Like Gord once said they play off one another, like tryin to play each others roles to some degree. And these guys and everyone who surrounds them are ultimately literate. And it's so catchy  I actaully never heard that before chris that Paul penned Blonde Solid and Get Back Again, thats food for thought :thumb:

Summiteer, just click the "quote" button on the right hand side of the message you want to quote.
Oh and Chris.. I listened to Joe with your lyrics and as far as I can tell. you got them down perfectly.. sweeeeet! :thumb:
Ahhh the satisfaction! I was finally able to hear them!
I for some reason was choosing Flac, I guess you have to chose mp3?

They are both stellar songs! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
But I remember from Sat that I did like Ballroom better!
I haven't to say I still like Ballroom better! There seems to be more emotion in Gord's voice. Not that, that makes it better, but I like it more!
I think I may be the only one yeah?
For now you may be the only one  . I tend to get drawn into certain songs new songs for what seems like forever than i'll move to the next one,as in this case its Joe well the 1:46 i've got of it :| but ballroom is next on my hit list and ya he's got waves of emotion in his voice on ballroom
right now i'm liking ballroom better!! or course joe is awesome too. i cant help getting a DFN feeling from these songs...
Definitely Ballroom... its the way Gord kicks in with "Here comes a country, are you in or are you out..." It's just such an awesome vocal melody... It feels half Phantom Power, half Day for Night. Josephine is pretty damn good too, but it sounds more like the progressive Hip than a touch from the past.
i'll throw in my two cents i guess....
as they say in the radio show game, "first time caller, long time listener"....
anyways, (correct me if i'm wrong) "get back again" was written, both music and lyrics, by gord sinclair but recorded by paul and gord downie for a cbc radio program.
it has also been stated by various members of the band that mr. downie took over the lyric mantle fully and completely starting with the album "fully, completely".
the notion of others writting lyrics is interesting. 1) does that contribute to the fact that there are some amazing unreleased songs (maybe they didn't thematically fit in with gord's concept of albums ?) and 2) if "ballroom" and "joe" are someone else's words as someone suggested, is that suggestive of the direction now being taken in their songwriting collective and new album ??
hope my debut sparks conversation....
cappuccino bandit
as well, does one of y'all inside trackers know the producer ? i know they are recording in NYC.
The truth is I'm not sure if anyone would know for sure unless they asked The Hip if someone else either than Gordy D wrote said lyrics/song. because as we all know in the credits of each album it says "All Songs written by the Tragically Hip" but which member is a notion we've all suspected for many years have been written exclusively by Gord D but how would we know for sure? if Paul wrote The Bastard or Escape is at Hand. Like Gord said when they get together to wood shed ideas everyone brings something to the table. which is how they have always worked. and i'm not sure if i'd believe that Gord Sinclair can or would stop writing after penning stuff as great as get back again. i'd say he's prawly still writing,

i can see where you're coming from, but joe reminds me of impossibilium, so in that way i see it being very dfn
I was listening to Josephine for the umpthteen today and some of it reminds me of TO #4...anyone else get this feeling?
Josephine is very In Violet Light, which I suppose proves that it wasn't just Hugh Padgam giving them a more insular, boyant, melodic approach. Ballroom is altoghether new, although one could make comparisons to Day for Night, or even The Stone Temple Pilots i suppose. It's my favourite of the two, although perhaps Gord's lyrics on Joe are best. Question: who is Josephine?

Well I know that Gord had said she is a made up person, my question is does anyone think she is a fan based the "fake fan" comment Gord made?
Yeah makes you wonder huh!

cratch:
Lance...isn't that just the funniest thing you've ever read. Gord did not say that the person is a fake fan. That's what I called Lance when he knew next to no trivia...jokes buddy.
Oh I guess I misread what Lance had posted.
Sorry!
