Picked it up yesterday, and it's pretty damn good so far. The songs are well-written and it's cool to hear them experimenting with their sound a bit more. Brian Eno is all over this album.
I hate to say it..but I'm really liking these...
Chris Martin is really exploring / using the lower end of his vocal range much more than on the previous records.
Its getting pretty shitty reviews...
But then again... who cares.
There are some tunes I'm digging.

It's definetly no Parachutes.

I never thought I'd see the day... :what :what :what
Upon first listen, I thought it was atrocious. But since my wife is a fan and I've subjected her to so much music that she loathes, I figured I should give it another chance.......and I have to admit it is growing on me.
same here. i grabbed it from itunes first thing tuesday morning and my first thought was "what a waste of money". but it seems to be getting better
It's alright so far, a couple really catchy tunes. Can't wait for the show July 31st.
I hate coldplay
I gave Viva La Vida the spin it was entitled to last night, and the two songs that struck me were 42 and Death And All His Friends... but Strawberry Swing was definetly the most enjoyable song of the album for me.
Still...
its no Parachutes Sad.
It definitely took a while but I've come around on this album. It's not their best work on the whole but it's decent nonetheless. Death and All His Friends is the only track that really stands out for me.

It's no "Rush of Blood to the Head" either. But it's still decent. Their performance on SNL a couple weeks ago was awesome. The new songs sounded good, but "Yellow" brought the house down.
Interesting...listen to Satriani's version at about 0:50 sec in.

If anyone is interested, coldplay.com has a free download of Viva la Vida (Thin White Duke Mix) for a Christmas Present to all.

Its not bad and heck, it is free.
Coldplay just released a new single from the Prospekt's March EP.
Really cool song (if yer into Coldplay...) with a really cool video to boot.
