The Rural Alberta Advantage. Amazing act; think Neutral Milk Hotel with an earnest, Canadian grit. I think they're front-runners for the prize.

They are really good live too, just saw them in Paris. I didn't include them on the list since the album was officially released in 2008 and re-released in 2009 on a major label. Not sure how the Polaris people view that...The re-release was in July so it could qualify for this year's prize.
A few others that probably should be on that list:
Do Make Say Think – Other Truths
Islands – Vapours
Sunset Rubdown – Dragonslayer
Tegan and Sara – Sainthood
We are Wolves – Invisible Violence
You Say Party! We Say Die! – XXXX
If this was one song longer, it would have definitely made my list:
Elephant Stone - The Glass Box EP (May 25th, 2010)
Although he would probably never accept it, Matthew Good's Vancouver is truly the best he's ever written. It's deep, moving and a very emotional record.

I'd love to see his record win.
Last write-in before the list goes up:
Trevor Tchir - Sky Locked Land

That's 41 albums, one more than the long list, so i'll remove the latest The Most Serene Republic's 2010 album.
Here's the list:

Apollo Ghosts - Mount Benson
Bahamas - Pink Strat
The Besnard Lakes - The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night
Blue Rodeo - The Things We Left Behind
Brasstronaut - Mt. Chimaera
Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record
Basia Bulat - Heart Of My Own
By Divine Right - Mutant Message
Caribou - Swim
Jason Collett - Rat A Tat Tat
Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (ll)
Amelia Curran - Hunter Hunter
Fred Fortin - Plastrer La Lune
Frog Eyes - Paul's Tomb: A Triumph
Hannah Georgas - This Is Good
Ghostkeeper - Ghostkeeper
Holy Fuck - Latin
Karkwa - Les Chemins De Verre
LeE HARVeY OsMOND - A Quiet Evil
Greg MacPherson - Mr. Invitation
Dan Mangan - Nice, Nice, Very Nice
Misteur Valaire - Golden Bombay
The New Pornographers - Together
Owen Pallett - Heartland
Plants And Animals - La La Land
Radio Radio - Belmundo Regal
Justin Rutledge - The Early Widows
The Sadies - Darker Circles
Shad - TSOL
Elizabeth Shepherd - Heavy Falls The Night
The Slew - 100%
Meaghan Smith - The Cricket's Orchestra
South Rakkas Crew - The Stimulus Package
Tegan And Sara - Sainthood
The Wooden Sky - If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone
Hawksley Workman - Meat
You Say Party! We Say Die! - XXXX
Young Galaxy - Invisible Republic
Yukon Blonde - Yukon Blonde
Zeus - Say Us

I guess I'm pulling for Basia Bulat, Tegan & Sara, or The Wooden Sky. They picked the wrong Hawksley album, too.

This gives me lots of new albums to check out, anyway!
I predicted 18 on that list...I'm under .500

I also stand corrected by Sean B....Latin came out May 11th so was eligible.

I think Dan Mangan and Basia Bulat have the biggest chance to win.

Biggest omissions for me were Daniel, Fred & Julie, Woodpigeon, Cuff the Duke, Do Make Say Think and Julie Fader.
Yeah, EPenguin10's list was better.

Of those listed though, I guess I'm rooting for the Wooden Sky or the Besnard Lakes. Actually I seem to remember the new Owen Pallett being fantastic as well, I should give it another spin.
mangan all the way. Give the track "basket" a spin...
So cool to see Greg MacPherson make the cut. His new record is brilliant. But no Cuff the Duke, Ron Hawkins or Wintersleep?? That's crap.
A good list, but agreed, no Cuff the Duke or Ron Hawkins is mind boggling to me. Both are brilliant and easily 2 of the finest records from the past year. I suspect the list has more to do with industry then music.
I personally doubt that. Most jury members are supposedly independent of big industry and many run small webzines and magazines. Votes are allegedly anonymous. And the total prize money is worth 20k. Mainstream listeners are likely not affected by the Polaris Prize, and vice-versa - I doubt that the Polaris Prize can be the determining factor in making an artist "mainstream".

I would tend to think if there's any bias or manipulation, the tendency would be more on creating a diverse list, to include as many genres as possible.

While I agree completely that the CTD and RH albums are superb (and amongst my faves last year), this particular jury thought their latest albums were weaker than the ones on the long list.

Wintersleep missed the cut by a week, I think. They should be eligible for next year's prize.
